| Description | Please do not use Charles Carroll without some qualification. It was the name of a father, son and grandson, all of whom were prominent in Maryland. In addition, there are other Charles Carrolls related to them, such as Charles Carroll of Homewood (great-grandson), and Charles Carroll of Duddington (cousin). The father, son and grandson were respectively, dubbed Charles Carroll the Settler, Charles Carroll of Annapolis by their biographer Ronald Hoffman. The grandson, the most famous of them all, signer of the Declaration of Independence, dubbed himself Charles Carroll of Carrollton. |
