This was the author's speculation that Legio IX Hispana was wiped out in a massacre. I cared so much for the main characters and still wonder what would be the fate of the survivors. The epilogue brought tears to my eyes. Battles were fought and also there were two sweet love stories. This book is a favorite. This book was perfect: well-rounded characters, both Roman and Briton, no one was hateful, good story, heartwarming. ( )
