The delivery scenes are way too fantastical with the number of people present and the scope of the action. Due to threats discovered and the people threatened every possible character is brought into the complex for safety, way too many to keep track of. The action is fun and there are many humorous bits throughout, but the whole thing had some dragged out parts. It could have been shortened without losing the flavor. I really did not like the jealous confrontations that Jeff had every time a male got near Kitty. Where's the trust? And why does Kitty have to hold everyone treat them like she's there mother? Not as good as some previous volumes. Series is still full of sexy aliens and crazy terrorist plots. Loving the characters and the way the author doesn't feel a need to pry apart established relationships in order to feed the drama. That actually matters quite a bit to me -- I get tired of longer series when they keep doing that, and here instead our main characters are growing into their relationships while chaos swirls around them. Less loving how brutal the bad guys were in this one. Still love the characters, but I might have to move this series from a personal "fun romp that will cheer me up" pile to a "read when you're ready" one. I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 for reasons that others might not find to important. The story was great, I was entertained just like all the others and kept on the edge of my seat. I was disappointed in the author's lack of knowledge of some mothering facts. 1) it IS possible and quite acceptable to breastfeed past the time an infant starts getting teeth. I've done it, three times. 2) co-sleeping is not always a bad thing. Yes it should be done safely but a parent should never be told they shouldn't do it. Again, I successfully co-slept with three infants. All of that aside, what a great story. Obviously we've got Kitty in her new Mother role, but still kicking some ass. We've got a new and somewhat continued plan to take over the world that Kitty and her family and friends must thwart. And we've got new love connections being made. Loved it! A usual there were several plots interlacing and even a few connections to incidents in the previous books. And of course the Poofs were as adorable as always! The birth section was well-done, though I am not sure how I feel about Kitty, Jeff and Christopher's new jobs. Also, there was not enough Ace. But unlike the other books, this one is tailor-made for a sequel. Is it April 2012 yet? Loved it! So, once again, I give this book the series standard 3.5. I really do not want to round it up or down – 3.5 seems just right. As I am forced to do so . . . I’ll round up to 4. Because I am a sucker for moms and their newborns. Oh, and for the way Uncle Mort saves the day. The beginning of my review can be found at Silk Screen Views: Alien Proliferation Review First read: June 1-2, 2012 Second Read: June 7th, 2013 We join Kitty and the Scooby Gang about 8 months after the ending of Alien in the Family. Kitty's heavily pregnant and expecting the birth of her first child. But, Kitty being Kitty, this can't be just a walk in the park... Oh no. And finding out someone wants to kill her mother is just the tip of the iceberg. As usual, a laugh-out-loud kind of book, without one dull moment (because, hey, being a new mom does NOT mean Kitty should--or can--slow down), lots of romance and action. This book, we get to meet Amy, one of Kitty's high-school friends. And she makes a love connection with a certain someone in the gang *giggle* Amy is not one of my favorites in this series, but everyone in this series are awesome in one way or another. Then we've got Jamie. And no, I'm not talking about Reader. I am dreaming about Reader, hoping he'd turn straight and sprang to life out of the book, but so far no luck with that. No, I'm talking about Kitty's baby. The most adorable, cute, powerful baby in the world. You really don't want to miss this cutie! The most interesting part of this story, I think, was getting to know more about Christopher. He's been around since book 1, but here we actually get to see him, in all his layers. All in all, a great continuation to the Alien series. To read this review and more go to my blog The key to reading Koch’s Alien series is to understand that, regardless of the opinion of DAW, the publisher, it is not science fiction; it’s actually screwball comedy, high action chick lit with really gorgeous, human compatible aliens. If you accept that, they can be really fun. Alien Proliferation opens with happily married Kitty Katt-Martini hugely pregnant. Her human/alien hybrid infant is born not too far into the book. As usual, folks are out to get the aliens and there’s a megalomaniac or two out to take over the world. This isn’t the best book in the series; the plot could have been tighter and the pacing more even. It also could have ended quite satisfactorily before the last few plot twists, one of which verged over into Frankenstein style horror. Read it if you’ve read and like the series, but don’t start with this one. Powerful Permutation * Won this ARC from a contest that the author had 5 out of 5 gnomes Loved this book so much. There was so much happening this time around and a lot at stake. It's great to feel so many emotions about every single character, it's intriguing how every little character can be important in some way and really make you care about them. I don't think I've ever read a series that makes me actually laugh out loud so much while reading, this can be embarrassing if it happens at work but well worth it reading wise. This story just grabs you and won't let go, I won't even tell you how many times I was almost late clocking in this last week because I was reading in my car. There's about to be a Baby Boom with all the couples that are now allowed to get married and have kids. This promises to be an interesting ongoing development especially since some of these children are going to be very powerful. So who knows maybe someday there'll be some kind of spin-off called Alien: The Next Generation. The new additions to the team continue to be awesome, Tito the ex-cage fighter is a great character and doctor. This time around we're also introduced to more of Kitty's friends who are almost as interesting as she is. I also continue to be amused by ACE and everything he can do. Oh man, Christopher's problems in this book will break your heart but in the end you'll be cheering for him. He has a whole lot going on in this book. His future is looking so interesting and I can't wait to see what happens next. Politics continue to be a problem for everyone and there are many plans all happening at once. It's hard to know who to trust because this time around a mole is thrown into the mix. It's not easy figuring out who this mole is either. That's not the only mystery either, let's just say that a certain part of this book made me even more scared of basements. There's a delightful amount of chaos in this book and some tremendous changes for Kitty and everyone else around her. Having a baby is only the beginning of the craziness, there are some side effects that could make for quite the intriguing future for the series. This book is full of action of many kinds :) Everyone is in peril this time and it takes many feats and derring-do to make things right. The ending is so so fitting and gave me an oh duh kind of moment when I realized that the next book in the series is called Alien Diplomacy. This series continues to be one of my favorites and is always a must buy. These characters continue to grow and change in exciting ways and I know that I'm always eager to read what happens next. |
