Title: A Heart’s Obsession (Journey of the Heart #2)
Author: Colleen Coble
Pages: 128
Year: 2015
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
In this second part of this six-part series, readers resume the story where part one ended. Sarah is living at home on the family farm, taking care of her younger brother and her dying father. Her bully of a brother still has his own plans for Sarah to marry Ben Croftner, even though Sarah has declared she will never marry him. With her father’s passing, Sarah leaves the farm, traveling to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, in the hope of seeing Rand and rekindling their romance. When she arrives, she finds Rand but with an unexpected surprise.
Rand has arrived at Fort Laramie and adjusted to cavalry life, which he loves. He doesn’t think Sarah would have liked living out in the middle of nowhere away from her family, so maybe it is a good thing they are no longer together. There is a new commanding officer at the fort, who brings his family along with him including his beautiful daughter, Jessica. She sets her cap for Rand, and Rand welcomes her attention. Is this the end for Rand and Sarah’s relationship?
I eagerly snapped this book open immediately after finishing part one and couldn’t put it down until I reached the end. I am so involved in this story. The characters are ones with whom I care about what happens to them. My emotions are engaged, and to me, that is what makes a good fictional romance. There seems to be something not quite right with Jessica, something fishy. I’ll have to read part three to see if I’m right or not, which I will be doing soon. This series might be a few years old, but good writing never goes out of fashion. Be sure to check it out!

Book two of the series is as captivating as the first, and an equally quick read. Again the tension builds, and you're left with a cliffhanger. I would like to knock Rand up the side of the head, or give him a stout shake, to wake him up! Breathlessly waiting for the next in the series. ( )

OH MY WORD!

A month is too long to wait for the next part of the story!

Sarah is not the only one being held captive! From the first page… to the last page, Colleen will hold your fingers to the pages and your eyes to the words!

The story will hold you in it’s grip and make you desperate for each new chapter.

Still difficult to believe that Colleen wrote this book at the beginning of her career. But then… I haven’t read a lot of her others yet.

Clearly I need to!

And you do too!

WOW! Just WOW!

DO NOT miss this book! And be on the lookout for the next one – coming in May!

In book 2 of Colleen Coble’s Journey of The Heart series, A Heart’s Obsession, Sarah Montgomery and Rand Campbell struggle with changing allegiances and love lost. As the action shifts from Wabash, Indiana to Fort Laramie, Wyoming deep in the heart of Indian country, the action heats up. Life in the west is just different — white women are in short supply and Indian brides are common and prejudices are rampant. This 98 page novella advances the plot quickly and characters are not as well-developed as in full-length novels, but Coble does not stint on historical details or on romance. A Heart’s Obsession was just the read I needed. Lucky for me though, I have book 3 on hand as book 2 leaves Sarah longing for a lost love and Rand set on sticking to his promises. Another great choice for fans of Coble’s historical romances.

Recommended.

Audience: older teens and adults.

A Heart’s Obsession is the second book in Colleen Coble’s Journey of the Heart series, and like the first we are left with a cliffhanger.
When we begin this book Rand has departed for Ft Laramie, Wyoming, Indian Territory. He has left Sarah Montgomery devastated. She is now dealing with the grief of loosing her Dad and the love of her life.
She begins her journey to Wyoming with her brother Joel and her best friend Amelia. We are about to experience what she finds when she gets there, and the long arm of evil. The evil appears to come in different forms, and we root for the defeat. Of course the Ben from the first book shows up again, and now there is another person.
Another quick read, and has me wanting more, I want to know what happens, and can hardly wait!

I received this book through Litfuse Blogger Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review. ( )

Sarah Montgomery watched the man she loved ride away. She chose to stay and care for her dying father and little brother, Joel, instead of going with him. When her father finally passes, her wicked brother tries to force her to marry Ben Croftner. Sarah escapes with Joel and joins Jacob and Amelia as they head for Fort Laramie, Wyoming, where Jacob (Rand's brother and fellow soldier) is assigned. It's also where Rand Campbell is stationed. Rand's feelings for Sarah run deep but he doesn't believe he'll ever see her again. When he meets the Major's daughter, Jessica DuBois, he is rather taken with her. Sarah was hoping for a happy reunion with Rand, but that was not to be. Sarah finds he's with Jessica now. Though heartbroken, she decides to stay at the fort and try to win Rand back. Things get complicated however, when Ben shows up and vows to have Sarah one way or another and Jessica will do whatever it takes to keep Rand for herself.

I enjoyed this installment much more than the first. The characters are better developed and I felt the reactions of Rand and Sarah were more realistic than in the first. The author does a great job of building the tension and I found I couldn't read fast enough. These installments are short, about 128 pages or less, so they are easy to read in a sitting or two, which I actually really like. It's done in a serial format, so be sure to read them in order. Also, the ending is left open, leaving you anxious for the next part. So saddle up and head on over to Fort Laramie. Though things are unsettled with the Indians, there just might be an uprising in the Fort. I’m looking forward to A Heart's Danger.

Journey of the Heart series

Part 2 of 6 in the Journey of the Heart series ~
I've made some massive changes to them, and I hope you enjoy these new, updated stories. This installment begins to show what Sarah faces in winning Rand back again.

My review:
This six-part novella series is a reissue of the Wyoming series, earlier works by Colleen Coble ~ Where Leads the Heart and continuing Plains of Promise, to be enjoyed by new readers and renewed by those who read them when they were first published almost a decade ago. The story continues as Sarah Montgomery travels through the American West with her brother, Jacob, and his wife, and their younger brother, Joel, to Fort Laramie, Wyoming.

Thinking her constant friend, Lieutenant Rand Campbell, will be so pleased to see her, Sarah finds she is mistaken as he has moved on without her. As the tribal chiefs near the fort have asked to have their children schooled, Sarah is requested to teach them English and reading and writing. She makes friends with two of the older teenagers, Morning Song and Ah-ho-appa.

Change enters into the lives of Morning Song, daughter of White Raven, and a Sioux chief's daughter, Ah-ho-appa; and those at the fort, Jessica and her mother, Letty, and Amelia. Being introduced to new characters, brings them into the story as we continue to learn of the new life before Sarah at Fort Laramie.

Trouble comes when Ben Croftner arrives and causes havoc. Will there be retaliation in the midst of winter, removing peace between the fort and the Indian encampment? (to be continued in next month's issue...)

These are the six serial parts published in short installments at regular intervals, as a novel appearing in successive issues of a magazine. The blog tour dates are monthly, March through August, 2015. Book One ~ A Heart's Disguise; Book Two ~ A Heart's Obsession; Book Three ~ A Heart's Danger; Book Four ~ A Heart's Betrayal; Book Five ~ A Heart's Promise; Book Six ~ A Heart's Home.

“A Heart’s Obsession” is the sequel to the first novella in the series titled, “A Heart’s Disguise”, which is introducing readers to one of the earliest works of Colleen Coble. Here is the link to my review of the first novel in the series http://seekingwithallyurheart.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-hearts-disguise-journey-of-...
In the second installment, we have Rand now at his post in Wyoming. Sarah’s brother Wade demands she marries Ben no matter how she might feel about him. The tension in the relationships with Ben, Rand and Sarah will keep you rooting for the best man to win Sarah’s heart! Sarah has to learn a different life out in the wilderness, especially in her teaching English to the local tribe.
Sarah has a heart of compassion and the tenacity to face trials head on even when threatened physically by a man she detests. Sarah loves to read, cook and is glad to be at the fort living with her best friend. Sarah is my favorite character and her virtues are brilliant like when she promises to care for her younger brother whose heart in some ways mirrors Sarah’s.
I hope that you join me in reading this series and sharing your thoughts with others and perhaps read the books as a book club. I bet the discussions would be lively and laughter a natural byproduct of girls getting together and sharing tea, coffee or something cold. Join me in May when the third book is due to be released and feel free to leave any comments you have on my blog!
