The totally cute cover of this book, as well as the almost oxymoron title "Love Monster", is attention getting. The equally cute story line delivers a sweet/sad story of a funny-looking monster searching for acceptance among a world of cute and fluffy things. His quest seems like a lost cause and is ready to give up when suddenly his true love finds him. The message of this story is that "sometimes, when you least expect it... love finds you", a reminder to stay true to yourself and not try too hard for acceptance.

A Valentine for the rest of us. And, yes, Monster is cuter than the kittens, bunnies, and puppies, in my opinion. I am definitely looking for more by the author. ( )

In this story a hairy, funny- looking monster feels left out and is searching for someone to love him. He sees all the puppies and kittens that are being loved, but he can't find anyone to love him. He searches and becomes discouraged to the point of giving up. Right when he gives however, he finds friends to love him just the way he is. This conveys the central message that everyone is unique and loved in their own way. ( )

The only non-cuddly resident of Cutesville, Monster longed for friends, companionship, and most of all, for love. Setting out one day on a quest to find what he's been missing, Monster searched high and low, all to no avail. Beaten down and defeated, he was heading back to Cutesville when he met a slightly hairy she-monster on the bus...

An engaging tale of a sympathetic misfit who only wants the same love and companionship he sees others around him enjoying, Love Monster pairs an endearing story with bright, appealing artwork, created through a process called 'solar etching,' in which ultraviolet light is used to make printing plates. As someone who likes block-printing type artwork, I was pretty much guaranteed to find Love Monster appealing, stylistically speaking, but I also appreciated the vivid but subtle color palette that Rachel Bright employed. All in all, an enjoyable little cream-puff of a picture-book, and more than enough to convince me to track down more about Love Monster. ( )

Rachel Bright writes about a little red monster who lives in a world of cute things. No one likes the monster because he does not fit in, so he decides to go out on his own and find someone who loves him. Just before the monster is about to give up on his search, he finds a monster just like him. This is a sweet book that will teach readers that they are never alone even if he or she feels like they do not fit in, in a particular setting. I loved the illustrations in this book. They are bright and fun. ( )

Summary: In a world where boys and girls love fluffy, cute little animals, it is hard for a little monster to find a person to love him. He searches everywhere for someone to accept him, and when he doesn't find anyone, he gives up and waits for a bus to take him home. When the bus arrives, he sees a girl monster on the bus, and immediately he knows he found someone. ( )

This is a very cute book about a monster who is searching for love in all the wrong places. The book shows how even though he tries very hard, he isn't able to find what he is searching for and gets discouraged. However, it does have a happy ending that leaves the reader on a bright and hopeful emotion. It's a great discussion starter for children who may be trying hard without achieving the results they desire, or for kids having a hard time fitting in. It's also a good starting point for talking about perseverance and acceptance and differences. The illustrations are bright and bold and very cute. We love this book! ( )

This short story is about a monster who felt ugly and unloved because he was surrounded by cute fluffy lovable things. He went on a search to find someone or something that would love him and his search grew increasingly disappointing. One day he randomly bumped into another monster and she loved him. This teaches us that we don't need to look for love, and that somewhere out there; there is someone for everyone. It taught me not to judge someone based on appearances because everyone is different and will look different, but looks don't matter. ( )

Not giving up is the big idea of the story. Just when Monster was about to give up, he found what he was looking for.

In my opinion, this is a great book. The writing and illustrations went together very well. For example, "[Monster] looked high. He looked low." and in the pictures, he was on the top and bottom of a hill. Even the font of the text was illustrated. In Monster's name, their was a little heart in the O. That is a subtle way to show that there is something beautiful in something as plain as the word "monster". Another example of that is the word "love" also had a heart in the O. It helps explain what the word means, which may be a helpful clue for children learning to read. Finally, I loved the plot of the story. Monster felt like no one would ever love him, but kept searching for the one who would. This is a situation that everyone can relate to at some point in their lives. I definitely recommend this book.
