Zzzng!, Zzzng!, Zzzng!: A Yoruba Tale (Venture-Health & the Human Body) (edition 1998)by Phillis GershatorThis is a funny tale that gives children a story as to why mosquitoes are still around to this day and bite our legs and arms, but not our ears! In this tale, it describes how Mosquito tried to marry leg, arm, and ear, but they all rejected her because they thought she was weak and small. In the end, she found the perfect husband, a mosquito, and her anger still lingers for leg, arm, and ear. So, that is why (to this day) mosquitoes bite our legs and arms and buzz (sing) in our ears when we try to sleep. This could teach children not to underestimate anything. Just because something is small and looks weak, does not mean it could not have a big effect on lives by being strong enough to stay around for many years. This book has excellent illustrations. The story is one that tells about different parts of the body approached by a mosquito for marriage. When they denied her, she started biting them and thus the tale of how mosquito started biting things. It is a great story is one that I want in my personal library. |
