This book was ok but I did not find it that captivating. It is a good book to use in a classroom if you are taking about animal behavior or comparing different animals. I liked that they explained why the animals make the sounds they do and other animals that make the same noise and how those animal use the sounds. It really is a interesting topic. I just feel that the book might be a little lite on pictures and to many words for younger children to sit through. I do think it is a good book for older students. ( )

Can an aardvark bark? No, but it can grunt. Lots of other animals grunt too…

Barks, grunts, squeals—animals make all kinds of sounds to communicate and express themselves. With a growling salamander and a whining porcupine, bellowing giraffes and laughing gorillas, this boisterous book is chock-full of fun and interesting facts and is sure to be a favorite of even the youngest animal enthusiasts.

Can an Aardvark Bark by Melissa Stewart

This is an informational book on teaching children different sounds different animals make. With a rhyming and question answer format children will love this book and will be able to make all the sounds too!

Personal Reaction: This is great for young children to experience the different animals in the world and be able to sound and make the early connection of which sound goes with which animal

Classroom Extension

1)after reading the book, ask each child to make a sound of their favorite animal.
2) Make a sound and have the class tell you which animal. ( )
