Loading... Charlie the Ranch Dog (edition 2012)by Ree DrummondWho doesn't love Ree Drummond? Who doesn't dogs? Who doesn't love Charlie the Ranch Dog? The first book in her beloved series, The Pioneer Woman brings her beloved basset hound to life. And oh, what a life--eating bacon and sleeping ;) Granted, Charlie thinks the ranch wouldn't run without him but we all know he doesn't do that much ;) I love Charlie so much. Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond is a humorous look at a dog's life on the farm. Charlie is a basset hound who thinks he does most of the work around the ranch. However, really he does a lot of napping and eating. His friend, Susie does much more work and has a ton more energy. It shows a day in his life, including when he saves the day. Ree Drummond has given Charlie great voice in this story with many belly laughs. She has also hidden a fun chipmunk on each page - Can you find them all? Summary- This book is about a dog named Charlie who lives on a Ranch. He talks about the many duties that happen on a ranch through out the day. He has another dog who helps and he talks about how together they do many things, even though Charlie mostly sleeps. It is a funny book while still allowing children to learn about what life on a ranch might look like. Genre- This book is fantasy since Charlie the dog is talking and that would not happen in real life. Age- K-2nd Media- Although not specified I would guess water color or ink and wash for these illustrations. This book is written by the well known Pioneer woman. The book is about Ree's hound dog and his life on the family ranch. The author brought this fantasy book to life by speaking from the mind of her dog, Charlie. Charlie thoughts are portrayed out loud in this book and he thinks very highly of himself. This book was fun because it was from a different perspective. This book is about a dog who thinks that he works really hard around the farm but in all reality its the other dog that does most of the work. He tries to take all the credit but he really is a nice dog. I don't know if i like the moral of the book but it could point to the children that sometimes you'll end up with lazy partners and sometimes you just have to do things for yourself. This book would be used for primary Genere- Fantasy Meet Charlie. He's a ranch dog. Breakfast is his life, especially when bacon is involved. Charlie has dangly ears, floppy skin, and big fat paws. And he loves living in the country. That's because he works like a dog...fixing fences, gardening, and helping his family out on the range. Yep, it's all work, all the time for Charlie the ranch dog. In fact, he's probably working right now...Zzzzzzz.... A ranch dog's work is never done! Come along as Ree Drummond, The Pioneer Woman, introduces us to her beloved short-legged pioneer dog named Charlie. 28 months - Charlie is a funny dog who thinks he's working really hard but is actually pretty lazy as a farm dog. Olivia likes this book and you can always tell a memorable book because last night she named her Jack Russell figurine "Suzie". I had to flip through the stack of library books to figure out which book the name came from. Charlie the Ranch Dog is a very nice book about a dog who lives on a farm with a family and another, younger dog. Charlie is the farm dog and the family he lives with owns and operates the farm. Charlie is very happy and very proud of his family. He makes sure things go swimmingly for the day to day operations on the farm. Charlie believes that he works very hard on the farm, but in reality, he sleeps and eats, and sleeps and eats. One day, while the family and the younger dog were on the farm working, Charlie was at home sleeping when a fire broke out at the house. He rushes to alert the family and they are able to save the house. Everyone is very grateful for his heroics and everyone is very happy. A very good book to have in the classroom with sequels and prequels. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I was supposed to receive this book for Early Reviewers, but alas, it never came. So when I saw it at our book fair I snatched it up.What drew me to this book was the cover illustration of Charlie. It reminded me so much of the farm dog my uncle has, and I wanted to see what the book was like. Charlie is a lovable dog who guards his ranch, sleeps, and eats. He reminds me very much of Hank the Cowdog, which is a yearly read in my classroom. This book will join the read aloud shelf, and will surely be well read/worn by my students for years to come. Charlie the ranch dog must be some kin to my favorite “head of ranch security”, Hank the cowdog. Charlie is in charge and he must be constantly on alert to dangers on the ranch…except, of course, when he must take time out for breakfast, and lunch, and a few naps now and then. Delightful. “The first thing we do every day is get out of bed early. Too early. Dark early. I’d better go wake up Suzie. She’s never been much of a morning dog. Well…I guess she was a morning dog today. There’s a first time for everything, I suppose.” |
