Loading... I Am Enough (edition 2018)by Grace Byers (Author), Keturah A. Bobo (Illustrator)This book celebrates diversity and encourages self-acceptance. The story is all about a young girl who learns how to find confidence in herself. This is a heartwarming story! This would be good for mid elementary ages I would use this book in my classroom when talking about celebrating diversity in the classroom. Age: 1st-3rd grade Summary: Through its poetic layout, this book tells the story of a young girl navigating her unique qualities and embracing her individuality. Use in the classroom: This boo would be a great book for teachers to introduce during an anti-bullying unit, or simply as an uplifting story to tell. Either way, students would be able to get an empowering message to encourage confidence and embracing their individual traits that make them unique. This adorable and beautiful picture book is a depiction of a little girl and her outlook on life. Some of the phrases she uses include "Like the sun, I'm here to shine. Like the birds, I'm here to fly and soar over everything". I would really recommend this book to all elementary students, but specifically to kindergarten through third grade. This age group would work best because all the students in this age need to hear the words "I am enough", especially students who may not have the strongest or safest home lives. Being able to hear the words "I am enough" and also allow them to practice saying it for themselves will most likely bring a better outcome. Quoting from the book's dust jacket: [The author] Grace Byers is an actor and activist who stars in Fox's hit series 'Empire.' As a multiracial young girl and a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), Grace was bullied throughout her childhood. This book was born out of her desire to empower young girls against the effects of bullying. . .[The illustrator] Keturah A. Bobo is an artist whose dedication to creating vibrant images that depict diversity has gained her attention worldwide. . ." Goodreads Review: This is a gorgeous, lyrical ode to loving who you are, respecting others, and being kind to one another—from Empire actor and activist Grace Byers and talented newcomer artist Keturah A. Bobo. This is the perfect gift for mothers and daughters, baby showers, and graduation. We are all here for a purpose. We are more than enough. We just need to believe it. |
