Never a dull moment, kept you on the edge of your seat. I am starting to like Bennett as much as Alex Cross. ( )

Gone is the 6th book of the Michael Bennett series and I am a sucker for a good mystery. I love this series and in particular this book. Michael Bennett is a NYPD detective with ten kids who are currently in witness protection due to a notorious drug lord named Manuel Perrine set out a wanted sign for anyone Bennett cares about. This is what gets the Bennett clan from the loud noisy state of New York to a quiet farm in California. When Mike's friend Emily Parker comes to visit them from the FBI, to get Mike back on the case to hunt down Manuel Perrine will this plan backfire and get his family into more trouble? The intended audience would be high-school, 9-12.

I would allow students to pick a book every 9 weeks, so at the end of the year there will be four books. (compound) I then would have them pick different genres and do different assignments with their books, they would have to be checked off by the teacher and approved. Then they would have until the week nine of the nine weeks to turn it in.

11th grade teks:

(B) analyze how characters' behaviors and underlying motivations contribute to moral dilemmas that influence the plot and theme;

(C) evaluate how different literary elements shape the author's portrayal of the plot; and

(D) analyze how the historical, social, and economic context of setting(s) influences the plot, characterization, and theme.

(7) Multiple genres: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and thinking using multiple texts--genres. The student recognizes and analyzes genre-specific characteristics, structures, and purposes within and across increasingly complex traditional, contemporary, classical, and diverse texts. The student is expected to:

(A) read and analyze American literature across literary periods;

(B) analyze relationships among characteristics of poetry, including stanzas, line breaks, speaker, and sound devices in poems across a variety of poetic forms;

(C) analyze how the relationships among dramatic elements advance the plot;

(D) analyze characteristics and structural elements of informational texts such as:

(i) clear thesis, strong supporting evidence, pertinent examples, commentary, summary, and conclusion; and

(ii) the relationship between organizational design and author's purpose;

(E) analyze characteristics and structural elements of argumentative texts such as:

(i) clear arguable thesis, appeals, structure of the argument, convincing conclusion, and call to action;

(ii) various types of evidence and treatment of counterarguments, including concessions and rebuttals; and

(F) analyze the effectiveness of characteristics of multimodal and digital texts. ( )

Detective Bennett, along with his ten adopted children, their nanny, and his grandfather, are hidden safely on a rural California farm, with guards courtesy of the FBI's witness protection program. Perrine begins to embark on an escalating series of assassinations across the country, killings whose brazenness and audacity bring into question the possibility of safety and law in the US. Ends up in Mexico. ( )

Gone resumes the story where I, Michael Bennett finished on it's cliff hanger with the Bennett family forced into witness protection after an assassination attempt by the cartel.

Now, numerous months later Manuel Perrine, cartel head, man responsible for Bennett's family being in hiding, has continued his reign of terror and only become more bloodthirsty and violent whilst the Bennett family has begun to fit into farm life and Bennett himself is slowly going stir crazy. With no new leads and lacking investigative direction on the Perrine case the decision is made to bring the one man who managed to apprehend Perrine, Detective Michael Bennett, back in.

It's quite the action filled romp with Perrine effectively going against the might of the US Government after poking the bear one too many times. Like the prior books it's got a pretty snappy pace and there's still the on again off again romance with Mary Catherine, this time a US Marshall also capturing some of her attention. ( )

This is a really fast read. I could hardly put it down. I love books like this that scoop you up and take you away. The books like so many other series books are predictable but yet enjoyable because of the few twists and tweaks. I look forward to the new installments of the various series that Patterson puts out. Looking forward to the Bennett s getting back to Manhattan and moving along with their lives. ( )

By my count this is the 47th James Patterson book I have read. And my reviews for them all look pretty much the same except for the Alex Cross novels which are my absolute favourite.

Why I love them:
1)Short chapters
2)Fast paced
3)Freaking unbelievable

Now although Patterson is criticised for joining up with other authors and writing several books a year, I find that I don't really care. I still really enjoy them and can read one in a day. I like that! As I have hundreds of books at home and I want to read them all. If they were all Patterson, they'd be done in no time at all. I do take a break from them time to time as I find myself turning into a bit of a detective. Plus then I want to trust no-one....
These co-written books aren't as good as the original Patterson ones but as long as they can hold my interest, I find that I don't care much. All in all, a decent book by my standards. (Now to save this and copy and paste it for the next 20 Patterson books I have on my TBR)
P.S When is he gonna get with Mary Catherine already?! Jheez! I'm reading these books in order but Michael's life is so blimming complicated! The guy needs to slow down or retire already. He's not learn't even though he is repeatedly putting his family at risk! ( )

I still love Michael Bennett and his family but this one seemed like a meal reheated...a little stale. I'm hoping the next story will be something fresh and new. ( )

This is a very quick read that could be quicker. there are a few parts that could be hacked off without much effect on the plot. Michael Bennett, now on the run from a Mexican drug kingpin while the book focuses more on the NYC children's distaste with rural ranch living. the reader is just waiting for one of them to do something stupid while in WITSEC. The last big action scene involves Mc Murphy, a 60s hippie -- you don't know if he's bad or good until the end. ( )

This is a very quick read. You can read it in a day if you have all day. I went to bed right at a critical point in the book and woke up at 3 a.m. and had to finish it. I couldn't sleep not knowing what was going to happen next. I like the Bennett family series. I liked that this book had more of the kids' personalities, you got to know them a little bit. This was very fast paced storyline whether it could really happen who cares. It was entertaining. I still don't understand why James Patterson has had writing partners the last several years. I feel he is a fine writer without them. Unless it's so he can crank out more books each year. I think you can read this one on its own without reading the books in before it in the series. But I recommend the entire series. ( )

The last book in this series ended in a cliff-hanger. Gone finishes the story. It continues with the gruesome violence found in the last book offset with the usual family humor found in this series. I was left feeling that I've had enough Patterson for a while. ( )

I really like this series by James Patterson. You have a crazy Mexican drug lord who has great fashion sense, the Bennett family with their herd of children, nanny and Grandpa who is a priest, lots of excitment with the bad asses of law enforcement,shake it up and you are served a chilling martini. Great read and quick too. Perfect for a weekend read. ( )

very good patterson a real page turner. michael bennett is always good but this was a little gross and terrifying because a drug cartel king was after him and brutal. family is missing and it's scary. ( )

I didn't love this one, even though I usually love Michael Bennett's crew, and especially Seamus. I thought this had too much forced interaction, especially with Leo and the whole story felt rushed. They could have spent less time with Mr. Cody and more time on the rescue. Did Mr. Cody's friend get killed? Who put the cloth over Mary Catherine's face? It was all left unanswered. Sometimes the Patterson factory needs to slow down a bit. ( )

"A crime lord has declared war on America. Only Detective Michael Bennett knows why. Manuel Perrine doesn't fear anyone or anything. A charismatic and ruthless leader, Perrine slaughters rivals as effortlessly as he wears his trademark white linen suit. Detective Michael Bennett once managed to put Perrine behind bars, the only official in the US ever to accomplish that. But now Perrine is out, and he has sworn to find and kill Bennett and everyone... ( )
