Janner, Tink, and Leeli Igiby thought they were normal children with normal lives and a normal past. But now they know they're really the Lost Jewels of Anniera, heirs to a legendary kingdom across the sea, and suddenly everyone wants to kill them.

In order to survive, the Igibys must flee to the safety of the Ice Prairies, where the lizardlike Fangs of Dang cannot follow. First, however, they have to escape the monsters of Glipwood Forest, the thieving Stranders of the East Bend, and the dreaded Fork Factory.

But even more dangerous are the jealousies and bitterness that threaten to tear them apart. Janner and his siblings must learn the hard way that the love of a family is more important than anything else.

The danger is real as the Igibys escape the clutches of the Fangs of Dang and head north toward the Ice Prairies. The Lost Jewels of Anniera begin to realize their full potential along the way, but there are a lot of obstacles to overcome. Surviving Fangs, the Stranders, and even the wilds of Skree itself, the Igiby family gets separated, and that's when things really get bad for young Janner, the Throne Warden of Anneira. Worse yet is when he loses his little brother, the High King of Anneira, whom he is meant to protect. Surprises await around every corner in this action-packed, heart-filled fantasy!

I don't know if I can adequately express how much I enjoyed this book. The imagination that went into the characters, the creatures, and the plot itself is vast and enviable. I was swept up in the horrors, the betrayal, and the victories right along with the characters. I was annoyed every time I had to put it down and plunged back in with voracity every chance I got.

As in the first book, the main character really is Janner, the oldest of the Igiby children, and in this book it was even more clear why that was the best choice. He grew up so much in this book, even though only a short time passed (I don't know how much for sure...months, maybe?). Leeli really blossomed in this book as well, even though we didn't get to see her as much. She's courageous and has a beautiful spirit, and I love her! Tink, who is know more and more as Kalmar, has a rough time of it in this book, but boy was that ending incredible.

At times, I felt like the action didn't slow down enough for me to catch my own breath, but looking back at it, I don't think it was a bad thing. There were some pretty dark moments, so I wonder about the age range it's meant for, considering that my daughter falls into the middle grade range. I don't think it would scare her, necessarily, but I wonder if she would still be bothered by some of it, though she is on the low end of that range.

I highly recommend this book, and the series so far, for folks of all ages who enjoy clean, fun fantasy adventures. Also, you might see it labeled as Christian, and there are some references to a deity that many of the people believe in, but it is not overtly Christian. I have a feeling I'm going to love the rest of this series and want to re-read many times. There's no way I'm waiting for the new versions of the last 2 books to come out before I read them.

Thank you to Netgalley and WaterBrook & Multnomah for providing me a copy of this book to review. ( )

This was my third time reading the book, but maybe the most special. After 2 years of my daughter and me trying to keep my husband from hearing spoilers about this series, in the hopes that he might listen to the books someday, he finally started. He listens to the audiobook (masterfully done by the author himself, and it's a treat just to hear him voice Podo, Oskar, Peet, etc.) on his way to and from work. A recent Saturday, we drove over 3 hours each way to go to the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter for their Christmas events. My husband had recently finished the first book in the series and requested that we start this one in the car. We listened the whole way there and back. He's definitely hooked. It means more to me than I can express that my daughter, my husband, and myself all love these books and want to share the experience together. (We also watched the premier of the new animated series together and look forward to more!)

Name: North! Or Be Eaten
Author: Andrew Peterson
Genre: Children Fiction, Fantasy, Sci-fi
Age: 6
Review:
Sequel of On The Edge of The Dark Sea of Darkness.
The cover is full of illustrations, which makes it eye catching for the readers.
First they found themselves on the edge of the dark sea of Darkness, but now they are forced to the North or be eaten.
Three siblings, Janner Igiby, Tink and Leeli were supposed to be ordinary children with a normal past. But the truth is uncovered now, they are the Lost Jewels of Anniera, heirs to a legendary kingdom across the sea, and suddenly everyone wants to kill them.
The story follows from the end of the first book, where the three children, Janner Igiby, Tink and their crippled sister Leeli have to flee to the Ice Prairies in order to survive against the lizardlike monster, Fangs of Dangs.
Master storyteller, Andrew Peterson returns with his quirky writing style and homour. The story is thrilling and enchanting for the readers and it feels like this book devours the reader's attention with absolutely amazing story and wonderful illustrations throughout the pages of the book. ( )

I am going to make this review really short. The book 'North! Or Be Eaten' is the second book of the Wingfeather Saga. This book is a good sequel but I personally felt that the first book was a bit better. The are loads of bad things happening in this book. By the time I finished this book, I was filled with mixed emotions- anger, happiness, sympathy, sadness etc. The illustrations and the world-building was wonderful. The character-development was also great as most of the characters mature as the story goes on. But this book, unlike the first one, was filled with adventures right from the start. Another thing that I personally liked in this book is the
ending which is filled with hope.

Overall, this is a great saga, which would be loved by both adults and children, filled with adventure, fantasy, family drama etc. I am eagerly waiting to read the next book!

I thank NetGalley and WaterBrook & Multnomah for giving me this amazing opportunity to read and review this amazing saga. ( )

North! Or Be Eaten is the second book of this Wingfeather Saga series. Though we start in Glipwood forest it seems like we get a bit about Tink and Janner and the Igiby family. I would suggest reading book 1 first. Though, I only got book 2. It was just as good without needing to read book 1. Though, I think it would be best if you want to know how and why we start where we do in “North!, or Be Eaten.”

We seem to be following Janner the most throughout the book. Though we get glimpses Tink. It seems that both Tink and Janner are what this book is about. Though the way Igiby family acts will they be able to survive.

What will happen to Janner and Tink and Leeli? Will they be able to stick together. Will they be killed by the Fang of Dang or the Stranders? I got the feeling something is up with their grandfather. Who wants the Igiby grandfather?

Will the sibling embrace their special talent or gifts? Will they allow Fangs and Gnag the nameless and others to betray them. It was an enjoyable read. Though a bit of it made me take a while to read. Once you get into the book it adventure of a ride.

The images that are drawn are wonderful. I love them. The author does a wonderful job of writing the story. I was more surprised at how it ends. There are quite a few twisted and turns throughout the book. Young adults and children will enjoy this book/ series. Good for middle-grade children and up.

The book is really clean and teaches some lessons as well as throughout the book. You would be surprised that this teaches about the importance of family, grace, friendship, trust, and sibling rivalry. ( )

I have SO MUCH LOVE for this series!

What a great sequel! With new friends, scarier foes, betrayls, secrets, and life lessons abound, the Igiby children take you on quite the wild ride in what is shaping up to be one of the most epic adventures ever!

I laughed, I cried (OMG, did I cry!), I gasped rather frequently, and I can't wait to jump into Book 3! ( )

Not often a 2nd in a series outdoes the first. But this does so far and away. Great story. ( )

A great follow up to On the Edge of the Dark Sea of Darkness! The story picks up right where the first book stopped. Peterson's writing is still fun and playful, but the story is a bit darker and more serious. Janner, Tink & Leeli learn more about who they really are and why Gnag and the Fangs are out to get them. The story is full of excitement, mystery, strange people and creatures, and surprises. Don't get enslaved in the Fork! Factory! Grab you book and sword. Watch out for toothy cows. Have fun! ( )
