Loading... Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook (original 2003; edition 2005)by Michael Garland (Author)Do kids like these? Seems kinda superficial to me, and earnest in the message that a good book will 'take you right into it' so to speak. But it's giggle-worthy, too. Fun to spot the characters. Everyone will get Red Riding Hood; but how many will recognize Tom & Huck? On the back shelf are bonus titles [b:A Child's History of England|1775352|A Child's History of England|Charles Dickens|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1348804562l/1775352._SX50_.jpg|49624] (by [a:Charles Dickens|239579|Charles Dickens|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1387078070p2/239579.jpg]!), [b:The Brownies: Their Book|3185763|The Brownies Their Book|Palmer Cox|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1551562775l/3185763._SX50_.jpg|3218632] by [a:Palmer Cox|495164|Palmer Cox|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1317331889p2/495164.jpg], and [b:Drifting Around The World|27925390|Drifting Around The World|Charles Winslow Hall|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1677814529l/27925390._SY75_.jpg|16634489], by [a:Charles Winslow Hall|2041072|Charles Winslow Hall|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png] (I think, if I got the right match). Odd choices... the only one I've even heard of is Cox's. Zack is ready for another boring school year ("Why would this year be any different from the last one?") when punk rock Miss Smith arrives to disrupt his expectations in the best way. When she reads aloud from her special storybook, the stories come alive - for real! But when Miss Smith is late one day and Principal Rittenrotten reads from the book instead, chaos breaks out. Can Zach and his classmates restore order before Miss Smith returns? A humorous ode to the power of stories. See also: Dear Substitute; Louder, Lili!; Take Your Pet to School Day This is sort of like the bookish version of Jumanji. Miss Smith makes stories come to life when she reads aloud - pirates, dragons, princesses, and other storybook characters flood the classroom each time she opens a book. When Miss Smith is out, the principal and the students unintentionally release dozens of storybook characters, causing chaos. When Miss Smith returns, she must read each story in full in order to return each character to its own story. A fun tale. I think students would have fun making predictions and identifying recognizable storybook characters within the story. I would recommend this book to anybody! The whole story about leaving the classroom and entering into a whole new world just through books was incredible. It could be used in many types of lessons like role playing or a theme day. The illustrations truly bring you into the story by including full page pictures. The detail of the characters on one of the pages kept me staring for a long time trying to identify different characters drawn. This would be a great activity for the children to try and guess how many they can find. Overall, amazing book and would recommend it to all ages. This book is centered around an animated story book that Miss Smith reads to her class, it is chuck full of excitement and fantasy and characters. I love this book in that it is so imaginative, it would be a great book to read to my students on the first day of school. I think this book would be appropriate for grades K-2, it would be a wonderful way to show children the wonderment that can be found in a book. Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook is about this teacher, Miss Smith, who brings a storybook to class. This sounds ordinary enough, but this particular book actually comes to life!! The character spill out into the classroom and take the class on a magical adventure. It's one of the cutest stories that I've read in a while and I highly recommend it. This is a book about a boy who is bored with school, until he is introduced to his new teacher's storytime. The stories acually come to life as she reads them. One day when she is late to class the principal starts reading from her magic book and things get out of hand. All the characters come alive and refuse to go back into the book. This book is wonderfully written and the illustrations are colorful and bright. I think this would be a great book for all ages. There is also a lot of oppurtunity for discussion about all the interesting character's. What an engaging and delightful story! My favorite part about this book is that depicts a student that dislikes school until a unique teacher shows him how reading can be fun. Miss Smith is an edgy teacher in terms of dress and hair, but shares her passion of reading with her students. When she is late one day and the principal reads from her book, all of the characters jump into real life. Before anyone can put the characters back, as more stories are half read, more characters jump out. We see cameos from Goldilocks, the Mad Hatter, pirates, Little Red Riding Hood and knights in shining armor. This story is definitely a good choice for a read aloud.
