This book ended up to be better than I had though it would be when I was about halfway through it. The style is quite dated (written in 1959), the characters and descriptions are maddeningly stereotyped, but the untangling of the mysteries was surprisingly satisfying. ( )

Alexander Hero, a professionally skeptical psychic investigator, is called in to deal with a plague of ghosts at Parradine Hall, an English stately home turned into a guesthouse. The case is not as brilliant as The Hand of Mary Constable, but it has moments, and is lighter in tone. ( )
