Loading... Point of Retreat (edition 2012)by Colleen Hoover (Author)"Well, that was definitely my sweet." Amazing! I think the best treat here was that I waited so long from book 1 to book 2. There were things I'd forgotten so reading this one was really like visiting old friends. And what a story. I thought the struggle and the frustration would get on my nerves. I wasn't sure I wanted to see Lake and Will have a tough moment. But it was right in it's wrongs and so very rewarding in it's agonizing confusion. It was perfection. I loved every page. I don't regret reading it, I don't regret owning it. I only regret not buying book 3 at the same time I bought 1 and 2 :) The only points in life I seem to detest are the ones where the sweet moments of life turn into sucks in an instant, when everything feels so secure but the next moment, you're standing in knee - deep ruins. That's exactly what Will and Layken go through, in the book, and as practical yet devastating the details are, it took me all my energy to take more than 24 hours into finishing the book. As much as the first in the series, Slammed, the book had me bawling my eyes out. Maybe even more than the first. Throughout the book, each character develops into a better version of themselves, and it took away all of my courage to close the book when I had to. Life can be devastating and uncertain, but with the right advice and the 'stars' by your side, you'll get over everything. As the book proceeds, some of the fallouts devastate my soul, but "sometimes two people need to fall apart to realize how much they need to fall back together." So I admit that I cried when I read this. Because Will and Layken, I can't even. And when Caulder read that poem, ALL THE FEELS. I was super impressed with Slammed, but Point of Retreat just blew my mind. If you haven't read this series, go do it. Right now, I'm not kidding. It is an outstanding, unforgettable novel. I can't wait for This Girl.❤ Colleen Hoover is a must read author for me. Her books are nearly always perfection and even those I have not enjoyed were still wonderful books they were just not right for me. Her stories and characters are painfully real and I always become invested in the outcome. She is truly an author everyone should read at least once. I loved this one probably about as much as the first if not more. I liked to see Will and Lake overcoming relationship obstacles. Although she was a little childish with the Vaughn thing in my opinion. I also loved to see it in Will's point of view. I think that made this one better because during their fight we didn't know where her head was at. I enjoyed the little bit of drama. Definitely a great sequel If you are considering reading "Point of Retreat," I highly suggest that you go pick up and read "Slammed" first. "Point of Retreat" is a continuation of the story told in "Slammed," and I suspect it would be hard to fully enjoy the nuances of the second book without having read the first. That being said, I felt that "Point of Retreat" was a worthy follow up to "Slammed." I don't feel that it was quite as strong an entry, but I think that is because, with the initial tensions and anxieties resolved, the reader needed new ones, and it's hard to recreate the magic of the first one. But I still loved "Point of Retreat." I enjoyed the further exploration of the characters, and the addition of new characters, particularly Kiersten and Sherry. I was thrown a bit by the POV shift between the books, but I did manage to adjust to it about a third of the way through the book. I almost look at "Point of Retreat" as two short stories in the further lives of Layken and Will. Both were entertaining and heartwarming. If you really enjoyed "Slammed," it is certainly worth checking out this follow-up. You know an author does its job when you start reading one of its books and you lose track of time and suddenly you see that you've read half of it in a matter of what feels like seconds. This is exactly what happens with Colleen. If I would have a Colleen Hoover marathon and read only her books I might be done with them in a week lol. Point of Retreat wasn't as good as the first one but it still got me. A little too much kissing but it was awesome. Another great book by Colleen Hoover! Point of Retreat was just as amazing as Slammed if not better. I really enjoyed reading from Will's point of view. I loved the new characters they introduced. They were so butterflying amazing lol!!! And omg the drama. The angst was real! It had me pulling my hair and yelling at Layken. And then when incident occurs I was breathless. I was so worried about where the story would go from there. I definitely enjoyed myself reading this one. Can't wait for my next Colleen Hoover book :) 10 Butterflying Stars. I have never read a book from an author who can wrench my soul to no end. I have to say that in the beginning of this book I was not sure I was going to like it as much as Slammed. But about 5% into the book I was hooked and did not want to lay it down. I want to say that Kierstan is my new very best friend. I think she will be yours if you read this book. This book was heart-wrenching it was brilliant and I loved 95% of the book the other 5% I only liked. Will and Lake go through it all and it is so refreshing to read a book where that the characters are adults and watching them grow together is amazing. I loved it and I am so reading this girl next. I'm not sure why, but it took me a long time to read this after finishing "Slammed" even though I downloaded it right away. I also started it, then put it aside to read other books before getting back into it. I think I was reluctant to have them split up again, when they had already been through soo much. I'm glad I picked it back up. It made me smile, it made me cry and it made me very happy. It was definitely worth reading. Received from netgalley I don't know what to say about this book. I waited so long for slammed that I was worried it wouldn't meet my expectations. I couldn't have been more wrong! It was fantastic and Point of Retreat was the perfect follow up. My only complaint was that it wasn't long enough. I didn't want to say goodbye. I love Will and Lake. It's ridiculous how attached I became to them and their family. I butterflying love Kiersten! I wish it had gone on longer so that I could see what happens with Eddie and Gavin. Fingers crossed for the future and I can't wait for This Girl so I can fall in love with this series all over again! My teen book club have had to hear me go on and on about how great this it. The writing sucks you in, the characters are awesome and it wrenches out your heart, makes you laugh and Coleen Hoover is the genius behind it all we should all bow down too! |
