The dust jacket has a display of all of the names the city the Germans knew as Breslau has had over a thousand years of history. There are nine of them. Breslau has been part of four different monarchies, and one republic. Davies and Moorhouse have done their best to give the reader an idea of the complexities of the place, and the roles it has played down the years. It is fascinating. If you are interested in the past of central Euope, you can enjoy this book immensely. ( )
