Loading... Please, Puppy, Please (edition 2005)by Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, Kadir Nelson (Illustrator)This book is similar to that of Please baby Please. In this selection two babies have their high energies topped when they meet an puppy. The puppy wears even the babies out and they have to find ways to get the dog to relax. To no avail, of course. The overall picture of this story is always have fun and to keep your spirits high at all times. Summary: A book about two siblings and their dog. A book that we can all relate to when we ask or want our dogs to do something and we all just say please please! From not getting in the mud, to com when we call their name. The many times they don't listen they will still always be ours. And we just ask please! Personal Reaction: Cute book. Made me think of my pup and how ive asked all the same questions. It is a book that can get you into your feelings if you have a pup of your own. Classroom Extension: Tell the class about a pet that you love for similar to the book and how you ask that pet to mind. In my opinion this a good book because of the relatable and realistic plot. Two siblings beg for a new puppy and are surprised by how much work it is to take care of the puppy. This realistic plot shows readers who may also want a puppy of their own the time and effort that goes into raising an animal. The initial want for the puppy and the eventual frustration the puppy causes the siblings is very relatable to owners of baby animals, as I experienced these same emotions when I bought my bunny. The big message is that time and effort pay off, as the time and effort the siblings put into raising their puppy paid off once the puppy was trained, well behaved and much less stressful. Summary: This book is about the struggles of having a puppy. Puppies have a mind of their own. Trying to train them is not easy. Throughout this book the kids are trying to control this puppy. Their frustration and failure is shown through the changing size of font. You can tell they are begging this puppy to do what it's supposed to do, but it doesn't. At the end of the day you can tell they are still happy to have him. Personal Reflection: My children and I just got two puppies. This book brought to life the struggles everyone has in raising puppies. I absolutely loved the illustrations in this book. They were so detailed that I felt like I was apart of the story. This book showed that begging for a dog to do something you want doesn't help. A puppy will do what a puppy wants to do. Classroom Extensions: 1. Have a show and tell pet day. 2. Draw pictures of their pets. 3. Talk about pet safety. The children wanted their puppy to so many different things. However, the puppy would usually do the opposite of what they ordered. Until, the end of the book the puppy finally listened. Then the children were content. Personal Reaction: This book to me was boring and did not have much meaning to it in my opinion. However, for really young children this book may be great because of the pictures and the simplicity of the story. Extensions: 1. Maybe read this to a pre-k class to learn about patients with people. (friends) 2. Read this aloud if a child wanted to learn about taking care of pets and how it can be difficult at times. Summary This is a simple story about a little boy and a little girl trying to get their puppy to listen to them. They follow the puppy through many tasks that it should not be doing. In the end the puppy is still loved. Personal Reflection This is a very cute book. I have the same problems with my puppy at the moment. The pictures almost make me think they are photographs. Classroom Extension Ideas 1: This would be a great book to help kick off a lesson on the Letter P. The students would then tell me other words that have the letter P in them. They could also make a collage of words that start with P. 2: I could read this book when teaching about mammals and have the students point out the characteristics of a dog. We would then talk about other animals with the same or similar characteristics. Summary: The puppy doesn’t listen and the kids beg the puppy please to do what they say and the puppy just runs off and does what it wants. When the children throw the ball and asks the puppy to please bring the ball back. And the puppy does, so the children say please be mine forever. Personal Reaction: I thought this story was cute and made me think of when I brought my puppy home! He didn’t listen and I would beg him to do what I said! The first time he listened to me. I was so excited and just new he was going to be mine forever! Classroom Extension Ideas: 1. I would read this story and have the students discuss how they would get a dog to listen to them. 2. Then we would do a lesson on using our manors and saying please and thank you! Two children learn how much work it takes to have a puppy. They realize that it is hard work. They have to make sure the puppy does not run away. They have to play with the puppy and teach him how to behave. They even have to give him a bath. But in the end they tell the puppy is doing a good job and he will always be their puppy. Summary: Very simple book for young children on taking care of their pet. A lot of very bright and vivid pictures of the two children and their puppy. It shows what happens when you have to take care of their puppy and how at the end of the day they are all happy with each other. Personal Reaction: This is a good book for small children to show them what happens when they add a puppy to the family and the responsibilities of taking care of a pet. Classroom Extension: Let the class talk about their pets and bring pictures of them to show. This book is about two African American children and their puppy. The children just wanted their puppy to listen to what they were saying. Once their puppy was able to get out of the house he lead them on a day of chasing and the children repeating please, puppy, please. Personal Reaction The pictures in this book are very colorful and bright. Each page was full of excitement and adventure. Extension Ideas 1. Make a collage of pictures from magazines that start with the letter P. 2. Talk about manners learn songs or finger-plays about manners, Summary: This book is about two African American kids who have a little brown puppy that they take outside to play. As they are outside playing the puppy gets out of their gate and runs all around and gets muddy. They keep trying to get the dog back to them by saying "Please puppy, please." Personal Reaction: This is a good book. Kids really seem to like puppies. The illustrations were also very beautiful. Classroom Extension Ideas: This would be a good book to read aloud to the kids when learning about different kids of animals. like dogs. Also, i could make a print off for the children to color. Summary: This is a story about two children with a puppy, it's gets muddy and they give it a bath and the puppy jumps out and takes off running and shaking the water and suds off of it. They end up chasing the puppy and finding him and they are always saying please puppy please. They play with the puppy retrieving the ball, and how the puppy responds when the call it. The illustrations are great and show really great pictures. Personal reaction: As I was growing up as a child I also had a puppy and went through the same things they did. Extension ideal: I think that children can learn from this book about what it takes to own a puppy and the responsibilities it takes to have a puppy. Summary: This book is about a little girl and a little boy who are spending the day with their puppy. But, just like any other puppy he does bad things, such as, getting out of the fence, rolling in mud, running away while taking a bath, and he even chases the cat. But like any child they still love the puppy just as much. Personal Reaction: I thought this was a cute book. Watching my nieces and nephews playing with their dogs, no matter what, they still love them. Classroom Extensions: 1. I could have the kids talk about all the bad stuff their pets do. 2. I could have the kids draw a picture of their pet. Summary: It was about two children who had a puppy who would not listen and would run from them which made them continue to say Please, Puppy, Please. Personal Reaction: I can relate to this book because i can find my self always chasing my dog saying come back. Classroom Extension: 1. I would have the kids tell the class about them and there animals that they own. 2. I would ask the kids what the would do if there pet had ran away. Puppy Puppy Please details a mischievous little puppy that gets out of the gate and the children have to chase him then gets muddy and has to have a bath. The puppy also runs over the cat and tears up paper in the house. But in the end the children love the puppy all the same. I love the illustrations in this book. I also like how the pictures are laid out to look like you are looking up at the dog. The story in this book can relate to almost any child and their love for a puppy. This story can be used to show children how much responsibility pets are and what has to be done to care for them. Also this story can be used to show children how the illustrations in book can tell the story from a different standpoint. This story is about 2 young children/ brother and sister who get a new puppy and this puppy was learning all kinds of new things. the 2 children are trying to teach them everything right and they always ttell him please puppy please! Personal reaction to this story is so cute! the pictures are amazing and i have had a new puppy when i was growing up and it is very hard to teach them new things and right and wrong. I could use this book in the classroom when teaching about responsibility and being able to learn new things and having patience. In this picture book, a pair of toddlers attempt to care for a puppy. The text is fairly unexciting and unimportant. The book would be better if it had only pictures, no text. The setting of the book is in what appears to be a suburban backyard. The style of the text is repetitive and the words appear in different places on each page. The illustrations are what make this book worth reading (and sharing). There is no white space! Pictures are bold, energetic, and take up the entire page (often two pages). Recommended for preschool and elementary school libraries. This book tells a cute short story about two little children’s adventure with their new puppy. The puppy goes outside, finds a hole in the fence, and escapes. The children chase after him to discover he has found a mud puddle. The children give him a bath once they have caught him. After the puppy has had its bath and is all dry the children begin to play. This is an adorable book with very few words. I think the illustrations are extremely cute. The book is really told through the illustrations due to the lack of words, your imagination really gets a chance to explore. Children could really follow and interact with this book. This book would be a great book for children to learn about the responsibly of a pet puppy. It could be used as a great interaction book. For little older children you could use the illustrations and have the children create a story. I would also use this book as a sit down and enjoy a few minutes of reading and imagination time. |
