This is a great collection of one-page biographies about a wide variety of heroic women-- Joan of Arc, Frida Kahlo, Cleopatra among them. Students who are easily intimidated by lengthy, overly detailed biographies will not be put off by this text. "Heroines" is very accessible, and gives accurate, age-appropriate summaries of several very historically powerful women. This is a great accompaniment to historical fiction and/or picture books featuring these same women. ( )
