Hello!

My name is Andrew. About a year ago I received my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. I spent the majority of my time in grad school workin' on organic photovoltaics (i.e., solar cells made out of of polymers/plastics). I'm currently living in Boulder, CO and working as a technical editor for ESL folks (mostly from South Korean companies/universities) who are trying to get their research/work published in English-speaking, peer-reviewed journals (e.g., ACS and RSC). I like it a lot.

I also like reading! Lately, I've been reading mostly contemporary non-genre fiction, short story collections, and Japanese literature (with a bit of fantasy/sci-fi thrown in to spice things up). We'll see how/if my tastes change/evolve as the year progresses.

Good luck to any other 75ers who happen to stumble across this, and feel free to say "hello!" if you're so inclined.

Hi Andrew, Happy New Year! I'll still be peeking into your thread from time to time to find more recommendations for contemporary Japanese literature. Whatever happened to that book club you and another LTer were going to start last year?

Hello! I'll likely do the same for your thread :-).

As for that book club... she ended up buying an old house and I moved to Colorado, so we were a little preoccupied and never followed through. Hopefully we'll get our acts together sometime this year...

Hopefully!

I'm looking forward to see what you think of The Night Circus, it's been on my wishlist for a while.

How is the Wheel of Time (re?)read going?

A little frustrating, just 'cause some things take foreverrrrr to develop. But it's good. I haven't read the books after the sixth one quite as often (maybe only twice each?), so they're a little less familiar, which is nice. I also enjoy that I'm breaking it up and reading other stuff, too.

Yeah, and you still have Winter's Heart and Crossroads of Twilight to go before things start picking up :( Which books haven't you read at all?

All three Sanderson books. And New Spring, which I plan to read between #10 and 11 (the order in which they were published). Sometimes if I'm walking somewhere or something I'll also listen to the audiobooks, which is a nice change of pace.

Hi Andrew! I've caught up to you in my Wheel of Time reread, I'm just about to start Knife of Dreams. I've never read New Spring in publication order before, that was a great idea.

Also, I'm going to nominate our first book club book: Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie. I'll start whatever book you recommend after I'm done with the Wheel of Time, which should be in a couple of weeks.
