75. Lisa Genova - Inside the O'Briens
352 pp.
What would you do if your body and brain suddenly let you down - and would it change the person you are inside? Joe O'Brien is a Boston cop; his physical stamina and methodical mind have seen him through decades policing the city streets. When he starts making uncharacteristic errors he attributes them to stress, but finally agrees to see a doctor and is handed a terrifying, unexpected diagnosis: Huntington's disease.
How does this situation influence not only Joe, but also his wife and his four grown-up children?
This book was a very powerful read: not easy and fluffy, but so good.

Belated congratulations on completing 75 books, Diana! I really enjoyed your 75 th book, Inside the O'Briens . A lovely family story, and a fascinating but heartbreaking story about Huntington's Disease. I had not known much about Huntington's disease prior to that read.

Diana, believe it or not, due to all the chatter I do here on LT, physically I actually have small mouth, according to my dentist . She has trouble accessing my back teeth no matter how wide I try to open my mouth. I need a tranquilizer to go to the dentist, otherwise I'm not sure I could even swallow, that is anxious I get . I did not go to the dentist for about 7 years, I was so anxious. That did not help. Now I go every six months! :)

83. Sara Donati - Into the Wilderness
928 pp.
Blurb:
Weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction, Sara Donati's epic novel sweeps us into another time and place... and into a breathtaking story of love and survival in a land of savage beauty.
It is December of 1792. Elizabeth Middleton leaves her comfortable English estate to join her family in a remote New York mountain village. It is a place unlike any she has ever experienced. And she meets a man unlike any she has ever encountered - a white man dressed like a Native American: Nathaniel Bonner, known to the Mohawk people as Between-Two-Lives. Determined to provide schooling for all the children of the village, Elizabeth soon finds herself locked in conflict with the local slave owners as well as with her own family.
Interweaving the fate of the Mohawk Nation with the destiny of two lovers, Sara Donati's compelling novel creates a complex, profound, passionate portrait of an emerging America.
For me, this was the right book at the right moment. I loved it.

Wouldn't it be nice if 2017 was a year of peace and goodwill.
A year where people set aside their religious and racial differences.
A year where intolerance is given short shrift.
A year where hatred is replaced by, at the very least, respect.
A year where those in need are not looked upon as a burden but as a blessing.
A year where the commonality of man and woman rises up against those who would seek to subvert and divide.
A year without bombs, or shootings, or beheadings, or rape, or abuse, or spite.
2017.
Festive Greetings and a few wishes from Malaysia!
