Posted this back on my old Tumblr a couple years ago with no luck, so I thought I'd try here.

I’m going to sound super vague on this, because I didn’t read the book and all I remember is some or most of its cover. I have no idea who the author was, nor the title.

I remember it having a kid in the foreground, maybe a boy, and they had either silver, white, or grey hair (it could’ve been a super light blond, too). There was some kind of building in the background, possibly a school or some other tall building. The kid might’ve been looking back as if they were running from the building. I think it had something to do with magic or similar.

I believe my mom ordered it from one of those Scholastic pamphlets from school. Sometime between 1994-1998, maybe later, and was a paperback.

I tried some of those book finder sites but nothing came back from what I could see.

It’s not Harry Potter. I own all those. :X

This is only a partial match (but worth a try since sometimes vague memories like these confuse certain elements, but take a look at The Girl With The Silver Eyes?

The 80s/90s edition has the main character at the front with her school in the background (and you might be remembering ‘silver’ from the title/border rather than hair colour). It has been a very consistently popular Scholastic title ever since, though the cover has had several makeovers. The main character has supernatural powers.

The male lead in The Changeover by Margaret Mahy has pale hair.

I feel like Wizard's Hall is the closest I could think of! The old purple bordering around the art on the Apple/Scholastic cover looks very familiar, too.

Thank you so much!
