My mom wanted to know what this book is called. she read it very recently.

The setting was in London during WWII. The young boy and his family lived there and then moved to the country because it is safer. His mother dies at one point and his father remarries.

one day the boy goes down into this sunken garden type place. there is this crack in the wall near him. suddenly he sees a plane that has been hit and is on fire is falling from the sky. it's going to hit the garden where he is so he squeezes through the crack in the wall. now he is in an alternate world and needs to find his way home.

I also remember my mom mentioning something about a little girl...like she disappeared too, into the same place he did?

if you need any more info to help identify the book, just let me know. thanks!
