I started out the month visiting the Grey King and I've recently left Middle Earth behind me after the return of the king, spending a very brief spell in Melniboné to meet up with Elric along my way, but now I'm about to set off in search of the First Truth in as yet unknown lands... It'll be my first visit.

I visited Pratchett's Discworld in Moving Pictures. It wasn't quite as good as the last few books, but still very enjoyable.

I finished Havemercy by Jaida Jones.

It was pretty disappointing. Not much about the dragons, mostly bad romance. Long book and at least one of the relationships was creepy.

Just finished both The Warded Man and The Desert Spear by Peter Brett, and I'm about to head back to the Rain Wilds with Robin Hobb's Dragon Haven.

I just came back from Bas-Lag in The Scar by China Mieville. It felt like it ran out of steam just a bit towards the end, but on the whole it was very good. I think I enjoyed it just a touch more than PSS.

I'm just back from Bon Temps, LA, setting for Dead Until Dark, the first in the Sookie Stackhouse series. Nice place to visit, but...

I have one foot Under Heaven and the other has found the Wildwood Dancing. I haven't decided yet which way I want to go, really.

Before that, I was in the Théâtre Illuminata with Bertie who has Eyes like Stars, if I remember.

#6: I had the same thoughts about Havemercy except I couldn't even finish it.

I'm all over Canada with the Vicki Nelson and Henry Fitzroy stories in Blood Bank by Tanya Huff.

I'm in 2060 New York, with Eve Dallas, having just discovered a murder which somehow occurred during a fantasy role-playing game, in Fantasy in death by j.d. Robb.

I not only finished it, but have the 2nd book (got it before I read Havemercy).
Auggh !

I was sucked in by a false comparison to Ellen Kushner's Swordspoint. No, No, No.

Now reading The Gaslight Dogs by Karin Lowachee. Set in the north, so far a tale of indigenous people versus outside colonizers. Not loving it, which makes me sad. I loved her Warchild series.

The writing is not as smooth as her other books, and the world building and naming conventions are odd.

Hope it will get better.

I just left London, Soulless by Gail Carriger. I am now visiting Othir, reading Shadow's Son by Jon Sprunk. I just started it and am on page 155. Interesting characters and the plot moves fast.

I too am about to visit Under Heaven. I asked and received for my birthday and am counting hours to weekend so I can read it.

Just recently finished The Year of Our War and... meh.

It was "interesting", but a bit disjointed and had a few too many incongruous and anachronistic howlers in there for my liking. It also ended rather precipitously.

Too many ideas (most of them good) floating around in that novel, and not enough of them teased out.

I've since left Kitai, but remain in Romania for Wildwood Dancing. I'm also journeying through a destroyed Seattle in Boneshaker.

Infjsarah, I hope you'll enjoy the book as much as I did! (Or more, preferably. ^-~)

I just finished Blood Music by Illona Andrews about an alternate reality Atlanta where Kate Daniels fights... well no spoilers. I'll say it was a good book and leave it at that.

I don't think the touchstone is correct since the author doesn't seem to be loading.

Just returned from Tokyo in Wicked City: Black Guard by Hideyuki Kikuchi. It's the first book in a ten-book series of supernatural horror and urban fantasy recently translated from Japanese. It's somewhat entertaining, but it reads like an over-energized anime film with too much violence and sex and not enough of anything else.

Just came back from Discworld in Reaper Man by Terry Pratchett. This one was a little confusing and didn't seem to have enough plot for it. I still love this series though. :)

Just revisited Bon Temps, LA, with a major side trip to Dallas, in the 2nd Sookie Stackhouse novel Living Dead In Dallas.

Now relaxing at home with Kelly Link's weird & wonderful collection Magic For Beginners.

I read Angel's Pawn by Nalini Singh. It was a novella, and a prequel for the Guild Hunter series. Different characters. It was OK, but nothing that really made it a prequel.

Now reading Seven for a Secret by Elizabeth Bear, 2nd book with the characters and setting from New Amsterdam.

I thoroughly enjoyed Under Heaven. GGK is always brilliant. My only slight criticism is that I didn't get as emotionally involved with the characters as I normally do. GGK books always make me cry but this one did not.

Time for the July thread now?
