I just happened to catch the Top Ten on VH1 the other night and when there was only the top 4 spots remainng I knew The Beatles and The Rolling Stones had to be in the Top 4 I just ddin't know in which position they'd wind up in at the end. Of course I was hoping The Beatles would wind up in the Number 1 spot wihch they did and The Stones finished in the Number 4 spot
behind:
#2 Michael Jackson
#3 Led Zeppelin
but they also finished above:
#5 Bob Dylan
#6 Jimi Hendrix
#7 Prince
#8 Elvis Presley
#9 James Brown
#10 Stevie Wonder
And THE WHO wound up on the #13 spot

JNagarya I totally agree with ya on that point. I think Dylan should've been ranked higher and THE WHO should've made the Top Ten. I only liked Michael Jackson's music when he was with The Jackson Five and maybe only a fw of his songs as an adult. I do like Led Zeppelin they were a great Rock Band in their own right But this was voted on by other Musicians and not the fans and it just wasn't Rock and Pop it also included MOTOWN, today's R & B which I don't even think qualifies as true R & B like what I grew up with in the 60s & 70s and Rap which is nothing but noise pollution. If the Bloody, Freakin' Rappers weren't included some other Artistis' Rankings probably would've been much higher. Of course there's a bunch of other Artists some of them Alternate Rockers like Coldplay.
Joni Mitchell was Ranked #44 and she probably should've been Ranked higher too. Though the VH1 list does have a lot of
Aritsts' I grew up listening to and have their LP's at home. I only like Rock from the 50s thru 80s and no one from the 90s and 00's like Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Greenday, etc. Both Paul McCartney and John Lennon made the list a second time as Solo Performers. McCartney was #36 and Lennon was #31. I own some Led Zeppelin albums. You can go to www.stereogum.com or www.today24news.com or anywhere else to get a complete look at the list.

I wonder if The Stones feel they will ever be able to escape The Beatles' humongous shadow they cast even 40 years later after The Beatles officially broke up in April 1970. It took The Stones longer to get a fan base in this Country after The Beatles started The British Invasion in February '64. I bet it would've been a lot different for The Stones IF they had started The British Invasion and not The Beatles. And how would that have affected The Beatles popularity and their place in Music history? You realize that IF The Stones had started The British Invasion my name here might be RollingStones1964, Stones'64 or something similar and the places would've been reversed and it could very well have been The Beatles who had a tough time getting a following going in the States.
