Empire Of Gold, By Andy McDermott, was originally published in 2011 as book 7 in the series. As with previous books, Empire deals with real issues of the day as the plot line. We have black market items, smuggling, looting, archeology, civil unrest in Central America. All very timely for 2011. I'm only giving this story 3 stars because I thought it seemed forced. The Nina Wilde/Eddie Chase formula didn't work as well as it should. Nina & Eddie are fighting through a lot of the book. Normal for a couple but they fight about the craziest things, like hanging off a plane vs jumping from a moving jeep. I thought there were too many characters brought to the forefront that could have remained in the background & not muddied the waters. Well, I'm on to the next book in the series. Happy reading. ( ) Whilst this was better than Hunt for Atlantis, it was still disappointing. It's half a book really. You start off with the story set up to be about some fancy statues, the whole book is about tracing the missing statue in the set and then on the last page, the story isn't resolved and you're left with essentially a forward sell for the next book. In my mind a good series allows you to read a single book and enjoy it, yet read them all and benefit from a continuing set of plots & sub plots watching the characters grow. As a single book Empire of Gold is like turning off a movie half way through - a let down. Yeah, it fills in time, it's exciting in parts, it's got scenery & adventure. Yet it's also got filler, no ending and stupid characters who don't listen, pay attention or use logic. no reviews | add a review
