I hope they do another series with different characters that are mentored by Eragon and Saphira! Start of June ish - 9.7.24 (This is going to be spoiler filled so please don’t read it elizabeth lol) Let me just go through chronologically lol - opening with Dauthdert was cool ig - I really liked the siege of Aroughs with roran, such mental trickery and physics bickery, probably one of Roran’s best moments - I also really appreciated the development of eragon and Arya’s relationship beyond the one sidedness it was in earlier books, to be more equals - my favourite part of this book though was soon after with Eragon & Arya’s swordwhacking, the sword ing itself was cool but the 3 words at the end of the chapter (not ‘ily’ lol) when she has been like obliterating him and then he has to try and think like her; it was a really beautiful continuation of Arya’s story and their relationship and I really wanted it to continue - it’s also funny bc one scene I thought I remembered, where eragon or Arya is at the top of a tower and then the other one has to heal him by guessing their true name, didn’t really happen?? You could say it’s a mix of a couple tower tops with true name scenes that do happen but no healing or really guessing here - the rock of kuthian was also pretty cool, I can’t believe I didn’t remember the majority of what happened there. It was also nice just to get away to an island where nothing is quite predictable - also getting more more from Glaedr, and finally having galbatorix lay his delightfully convincing case down, was super interesting Now the main reasons I couldn’t really give this 5 stars: - although eragon and Arya’s relationship developed further, nothing quite touched me in the same way as the aforementioned scene. You could say what happens is the logical continuation but I maybe would have liked if they could have guessed their names rather than telling? (It almost feels like a bit of a hack rather than anything humans IRL do for intimacy, but I also don’t have any better ideas… except even my false memory with the healing I may have preferred? But hey) - I also just feel like it’s hard to make a (any?) relationship feel 100% authentic when everyone speaks so formally lol, like also nasuada hugging eragon at the end was the first time they’d really displayed any affection that wasn’t battle talk? The only relationships I really felt convinced by were EA, ES (of course i told myself i would write a scathing review of the whole series when i finished but i am just so happy to be done with it that i have no energy left. this series legitimately made my soul leave my body with how poorly planned and written it was. i truly have absolutely no clue how tf people are so in love with it. it must be nostalgia. there is not much groundbreaking or even that interesting about this series. in fact a lot of it is just plain bad. i honestly think i may have blocked some of it from my memory. anyway, so instead, i shall highlight my main issues and … disturbances reading this particular book. which happens to already be a lot of things so idek how long the review i had initially intended would be first off, why would you write a whole SERIES, a whole FOUR BOOKS leading up to a big bad enemy only to kill said enemy in such a dumb and boring way??? ur telling me the galbatorix that the author spent 4 whole books making out to be an all powerful tyrant who is so cool and dangerous is killed by… guilt??? by feeling bad for what he did??? no i mean literally. that is how he died. eragon made him ~feel all the emotional pain he inflicted~ like the loser of a main character he is and galbatorix literally just poofs into dust after screaming a bunch about how he felt bad. that’s just beyond laughable. i’m not even fully sure how to comment. like come on Big for the summary of the previous books! I have started this series 18 years ago. While Harry Potter brought me to reading fantasy, Eragon brought me to epic fantasy and definitely started my love of dragons. Therefore, I am definitely biased when reviewing the series. The last book was far from perfect. I encountered various issues. Firstly, the Roran POV of siege was unnecessary (I actually appreciated his POV in Eldest). We could have only gotten his last battle POV. Next, there was definitely one case of "let's bring unknown side character with us so they can die in a situation that could have killed anyone". Oh dear, what a lucky coincidence that we had one throw away character with us. I had a feeling that we went back with Eragon's progress a bit so there could be more training montage. Like he slipped back to kind of emotional fighting and that's ok, but he should have been able to realise that by himself. Instead, it's served to us as a sudden revelation. The way he pushed Elva was weird. She is a little kid. She has no obligation to help you. Again, the same with Solembum. You are telling me that Eragon was expected to pressure him that far? Actually, I gave this 4* at first because of the satisfying ending but as I was going through the problems I decided to get over my bias and give it just 3*. The last book ended the series very well, but it was a bit frustrating to get to the end. It explains why I put it on-hold for such a long time. no reviews | add a review
