Usually, books like this talk about the child getting ready for the first day of school: getting uniforms, school supplies, getting nervous, etc. I liked this book because not only did we see a child getting ready for the first day of school, but we also got to see the teacher, the principal, the bus driver, and the custodian all getting ready for the first day. All had different tasks they needed to do in order to prepare for school and make sure everything was ready and in place. This is a perfect book to ready to children right before their first day of school. I think it's good for them to see not only do they have to get ready and prepare, but others have a lot of work and preparation to do too. Nancy Poydar did a wonderful job on the big, colorful, lively pictures in this book. I definitely will be getting this book one day to have in my future classroom to read to my students on the first day of school! no reviews | add a review

I think everyone can relate to how the characters' emotions change from the beginning to the end of this book. At some point in our educational journey, we've all felt nervous or overwhelmed for the first day of school. I love how the book showed teachers and other school faculty also feeling anxious while preparing themselves. Just like the characters in the book, (hopefully) we've also experienced the relief that comes after the first day is over and we realize everything is going to be ok. ( )
