It's not that much, of course, but anytime I get a peek into a hell dimension (even one that seems to be as nice as this,) I get all giddy. Mind you, this isn't even that significant to the story, but I love my little quirky loves. :) Oh, and this novel gives a whole new dimension to relationship woes. I'm not going to spoil it, but ex's can be hell on a story. :) Poor Kara! I also need to say that I really love her bodyguard. Eilahn is simply a delight. And a half. Kara is so lucky. And the xmas decorations? Delightful! But that cat??? Let's send that cat to hell!!! Just saying. I'm having a great time with these books. It's still all about the investment factor, alas, but since I'm in the thick of it, I'm just rocking along without a care in the world. This is binge-watching for books and it's great great great. :) Sins of the Demon 4 Stars Beaulac detective, Kara Gillian, investigates a series of crimes with connections not only to the arcane, but to Kara herself as each of the victims is related to her in some way. As she attempts to solve the mystery, the evidence against Kara mounts up and it seems that she will not only have to save her job, but her life as well because someone from the demon realm is trying to summon the summoner … An improvement on the last installment both in terms of the mystery and the character development. Although some questions are answered, others remain open and new ones are raised. As people from Kara’s past start dropping dead, readers learn more about her history both before and after becoming a summoner. This adds an extra dimension to the mystery, which is very intriguing although it is possible to guess the villain through a simple process of elimination. Kara’s love life is as complicated as ever. The enigmatic Rhyzkahl definitely seems to have his own agenda and there are some compelling revelations regarding Ryan and his mysterious identity. It should also be pointed out that Ryan and Kara have the worst timing on any couple in the UF genre. The secondary characters are a significant factor in the appeal of this series. Zack and Jill are so cute together and Eilahn adds much needed comic relief. On a final note, much has been made by many reviewers of the cliffhanger at the end of the book. While cliffhangers are annoying on principle, especially if readers are forced to wait a year or more for the next installment, this one isn’t too bad mainly because it opens up new avenues for exploring Rowland’s fascinating alternate worlds. Nevertheless, I am grateful that the sequel is already out, and I do not have to wait to find out what happens to Kara. no reviews | add a review
