I read this book years ago, long before LT, and I remember it making a great impression on my younger self. I came across the paperback at a book sale and it brought back good memories. I bought it and am planning to reread it someday. I thought it deserves to be on my LT list. I so admire Shirley MacLaine... ( )

I have to say I was surprised by this book. I was expecting to read some far out story that couldn't possible apply to anything in my life or this world that I know. I couldn't have been more wrong. What Shirley Maclaine did was take you from the beginning or her search for something in her life that she was not quite aware of. I also expected this book to be a contradiction to my beliefs as a spirt filled christian. I was wrong about that also. She didn't take anything away from the belief in God or Jesus. I read it as the spirit is in us, we are devine because we are the body of Christ. She takes the reader on a facinating journey through her developing spirtual world. I think anyone with an open mind will enjoy this book. ( )

This book was also televised as a special and broke the barrier against non-traditional spirituality through a biography detailing the movie star's personal growth process. A very brave move that has made the New Age possible and acceptable today. A life-changing book for me. ( )

The author is the beloved and wonderful dancer singer actor and great theologian! She tells a story of her journey of transformation, through herself. [4] The writing is gentle, sensory, the words well-chosen, and in the way women often have, the content is practical. No, not "scientific" jargon or theological cant, not empirically or algorithm bent. Shirley is a survivor sharing her story with us as companions. And she is not sitting on someone else's laurelled limbs.

Update, and Five Stars. In 2019, out of the chaos of living in America, I read this bril book for a THIRD time. What a great comfort, from a Steel Magnolia! ( )

I first read this book whan I was 19 and it became my all-time favorite book! I was blown away not only at the subject matter, but her wit and style of writing. Through the years, I have re-read it twice and have enjoyed it as if it was the first! A gem! ( )

I read this book years ago, and at the time, I was interested and slightly skeptical about MacLaine's experiences. By now, I'm well-versed in this subject, and I'm sure I wouldn't be surprised by much of anything she's written. I do have a lot of respect for her for publishing this book when she did - she was one the first (and, AFAIK the first celebrity) to talk about her metaphysical experiences publicly like this. Well done. ( )
