The Gingerbread Man Loose in the Schoolby Laura Murray, Mike Lowery (Illustrator)In the story, the class creates a gingerbread man who gets left behind while the students leave the classroom. The gingerbread man then goes on an adventure to look for the class. In the end, they only left him behind so he could cool off. I would recommend this book for children to read because it is engaging to read about the experiences the gingerbread man has. This would be a fun read aloud for 2nd to 4th graders. The Gingerbread Man began in a bowl as many different ingredients pulled from a shelf by children who measured and mixed. The children rolled and molded him to look like a man then out him in the oven to heat. Finally, he became the Gingerbread Man. Suddenly, the children left for recess, leaving him behind begging to go with them. As he chased after them, he got rolled over by a volleyball that carried him away, and into the gymnasium. The Gingerbread man asks the coach for help finding his class, when he informs him they just passed the gymnasium a while ago. The coach notices his leg has come off and advises him to see the school nurse for help. Upon his arrival, the nurse puts a bandage on his foot which helps it stick onto his leg. The Gingerbread man asks the nurse for help in finding his class, but she tells him to find the art teacher who may have more information. The Gingerbread Man slides down the handrail to get there faster, but accidentally ends up in somebody’s lunch box. Luckily, it is the art teachers lunch box, who tells him to find the principal who may be more helpful. The principal is surprised to see the Gingerbread Man in her office and informs him that his class has been looking for him! They left him to cool and were saddened to find he was missing when they got back, they were even putting up posters of him through the school. The Gingerbread Man jumped into the principals hand and asked her to show him the way. When he finally arrived to his classroom, the children were delighted to see him again. They told him how much they missed him and showed him the gingerbread desk, chair, and house they made just for him. The children tell them he is part of their class now, and next time they go out they will take him along. Finally, the Gingerbread Man is happy to be back with his class and says he knew he would be able to find them! The Gingerbread Man Loose In School tells the story of the Gingerbread Man as he tries to find the group of kids that made him. The Gingerbread Man visits the gym, the nurse and the principal's office. Finally he finds his class and they have made him a desk in his class. This picture book could be used for introducing kindergarten students to the other areas of school on the first week of school. Students will find humor in the rhyme and his adventures through school. A cute story about a gingerbread man lost in a school looking for his class. Rhyming words that make it an easy read for beginner readers. A new spin on the traditional gingerbread story. This would be a fun story to read to students around the Holidays or maybe before the class makes their own gingerbread men. This is a cute story that would be fun to read with a primary class, after they go on a gingerbread hunt. I enjoyed the spin on the traditional story, where in this case the gingerbread man is trying to run to find the kids, rather than running away from them. I also like the rhyming and comic look in some of the book. The happy ending is also nice to top off the book. I am a huge fan of all books about Gingerbread men! This book was no exception. It's a fun read aloud book with it's rhyme, detailed illustrations and graphic book style. The little Gingerbread man is made by a classroom then sets out on adventure through the school. Told in first person from the point of the Gingerbread man. It reads as good as it looks, this book is about a gingerbread man who is looking for whoever baked him. Funny the children are looking for him too and it seems he gets himself into a little mischief here and there but all in good fun and hes on a noble quest so I think its ok. Once again its funny and one of those to share with kinds in the classroom or at home. This was an interesting read that I enjoyed since I have read the regular Gingerbread man. Instead of the Ginger Bread Man running away from his makers, he instead goes looking for his baker friends. The cookies takes a journey through the school and finally ends with finding the children. I like how this book rhymes throughout, this would help kids see how books can rhyme. This book is a book told through the eyes of a gingerbread man who was made by a school class. When the class goes out to recess he tries to follow them. He gets help from different school staff members. Finally the school principal shows the gingerbread man that the class who made him is looking for him and made missing posters. The gingerbread man returns to an excited class and is given a gingerbread desk, chair, and home. He is overjoyed to be part of the class! I really loved reading about the gingerbread man's adventures! Like author Laura Murray states, it is a tradition for classrooms to make gingerbread men who end up running around the school (I certainly remember doing so as a kid!) In her book, we get to see all of the people that he meets along the way. I loved her fun rhymes and think that it would be a great book to read aloud to a class before doing this fun activity! |
