Superseded by a later book by the same author "A Short History of Scientific Ideas to 1900", which has almost the same text, maps, etc, but with additions. The latter book is, in my opinion, one of the best general science history books and is very readable. ( )

interesting and eclectic summary of scientific thought and technical development starting with the Greeks and moving to western europeans contributions. Much time spent on Arab and Jewish influences. Pen and ink drawings. ( )
