Perry's annoying "self image" issues are still there, but I can see the character growing, and the creepy bits are still brilliant! But, the quasi love triangle is getting on my nerves. Basically Dex is starting to come off like a cheating ass, and Perry...well, a bit pathetic. I feel like there's so much more to the story, the dynamic, and that we might get some of those answers in the next book, so I move on. And, I also have to remember that the first three books only span about a month in actual time. Still. The author better give me some relationship closure soon, because the prices have gone up from a buck apiece, to three bucks for book four. I'm not going to keep paying more money for NO RESULTS!!! Just, you know, stating the facts. I am addicted to this series though. I usually find "scary" books stupid. So far The Graveyard Queen books have been the only ones to tingle me with the creep factor. (Stephen King does NOTHING for me, and even Barker's horror doesn't really "scare" me.) But, I do love the creep in these. Yep! Reread 2017 Reread 2015 _____(original review)______ Dex can really be 'want to strangle him or slap him silly with a smelly fish'-maddening, but he's one of the more interesting male leads I've come across and I really like him. I also love Perry, she may think she's going nuts, she's actually more normal and lifelike than most female leads. Karina Halle sure knows how to keep you guessing. Loved it! This series is totally scaring the heck out of me, it just keeps getting creepier, and creepier. Perry always has a portent dream before one of her and Dex's ghost adventures which she always remembers with confusion. This time though, she couldn't remember a stitch of it, whether that's a good or bad thing, I don't know. At least for Dex and their web series I think it was a good thing since if she had remembered I'm sure she wouldn't have put a foot on that island. Her portent dream was everyone's worst nightmare, no question about that. This ghost trip had the best and worst effects on Dex's and Perry's relationship. The former Leper island they visited did a number on their psyche, especially Perry's, who was an easy _target for manipulation, with her trust issues and constant musings. It turned them against each other and also brought them closer than ever. I just hope things don't get too weird between them and they can deal with the aftermath of what took place on this island later in a mature way. Perry continues to be Perry, I've noticed how almost an entire chapter can just be Perry and her thoughts with a full on conversation between her and her. I've also noticed that I wasn't bored, no not bored, I might, laugh, scratch my head, scrunch my face at what I'm reading, or sigh, but always entertained. I think Perry is the most.....special, character I've every came across, at least to being in the head of a character like her, was....unique. The creep factor, story, and Dex and Perry's relationship keeps growing with every book and becoming more intense. I don't want to even imagine how much more scary these stories will get, but my obsessive nature can't wait to find out. no reviews | add a review

With the Experiment in Terror show finding some success, amateur ghost hunters Perry Palomino and Dex Foray embark on their most terrifying investigation yet. A tiny, fog-shrouded island in the rough strait between British Columbia and Washington State has held a dark secret for decades: it was a former leper colony where over forty souls were left to rot, die, and bury each other. Now a functioning campground, Perry and Dex spend an isolated weekend there to investigate potential hauntings-but as the duo quickly find out, there is more to fear on D'Arcy Island than just ghosts. The island quickly pits partner against partner, spiraling the pair into madness that serves to destroy their sanity, their relationship, and their very lives. No library descriptions found. |

Red sky night, sailors delight, I thought"
this series is like a wonderful scary guilty pleasure of mine. The story is easy to fall back in to, no matter how long between books. And I always love Perry. She's funny and sassy and always herself.
And Dex is..well, Dex. I love reading about where they go, what they see. The secrets are killing me, but I love when each little bit is revealed one by one in the story.
I'm from Oregon, so it's a special treat to read all the little Oregon specific details in there. ( )
