Fans of romance novels by Nora Roberts, Debbie Macomber and Susan Mallery will enjoy THE WEDDING GIFT by Lucy Kevin, the first fun, sweet contemporary romance in the Four Weddings and a Fiasco series.

After Julie Delgado's restaurant closes, she temporarily takes over the catering position at the Rose Chalet, a full-service San Francisco wedding venue. She plans to dazzle the bride and groom so the Chalet's owner will keep her around, but fate has other plans for her when the bride's brother shows up for the first food tasting.

Andrew Kyle is not only the Cuisine Channel's Edgy Eats host and chef, but his recent review of Julie's restaurant was the final nail in its coffin. Once he meets Julie at the Rose Chalet, he's certain she's playing it safe. And he wants nothing more than to be the one to break her guarded passions loose.

But despite the undeniable sparks between Julie and Andrew—and the fact that he seems to believe in her when no one else does–can she afford to be taking risks with her cooking, with her career...or with her heart?

(THE WEDDING GIFT is an eBook original novel of 40,000 words, approximately 180 pages.)

When Lucy Kevin released her first novel—SEATTLE GIRL—in 2011, it became an instant digital bestseller. Her next two fun contemporary romance releases—SPARKS FLY and FALLING FAST—have also appeared on many Top 50 bestseller lists, climbing as high as #4 on the Barnes & Noble Top 100. The Washington Post has called her "one of the top digital writers in America."

If not behind her computer, you can find her reading her favorite authors, hiking, knitting, or laughing with her husband and two children. For a complete listing of books, as well as excerpts, contests, and to connect with Lucy:

This was a nice clean read. Of course, this is a novella, so I finished it faster than the average book. While I enjoyed the story line, I really wish that the story had been longer...with more meat.

Looking forward to more good clean reads by Lucy Kevin! ( )

This is a typical light romance for women, with - as is surprisingly common these days - a cookery theme. In this story, the heroine (Julie) has taken on a temporary job at the Rose Chalet after the closure of her own restaurant; she blames the failure on a negative review by a food critic called Andrew who turns out to be the hero of the book.

Julie and Andrew meet when he visits the Rose Chalet to check what is planned for his brother’s wedding menu. His main criticism of Julie is that her cooking is bland and unadventurous. So after he rejects her best efforts, she decides on a radical new menu for her next clients who - predictably - really wanted something traditional. It’s all rather cliched, and in real life I would assume that people booking a wedding meal would let the caterers know in advance what kind of food they wanted - or didn’t want - rather than leave it entirely up to the caterers to come up with something special.

The romance develops much against Julie’s better judgement, with some unlikely scenes at a TV studio and rather too much introspection on the part of both main characters. Still, I was interested to find out what would happen - or, rather, how the inevitable would happen - and it passed the time pleasantly enough.

My edition was free for the Kindle; however, I have no inclination to buy the other books in the series. ( )

A fast fun read, with a nice romance! Perfect if you're looking for a short and happy read. Also, it isn't hot and heavy, it's a pretty clean true romance story.

Julie & Andrew were both likable characters. Julie has a hard time taking risks since she lost her restaurant some time ago. Andrew just happens to be the food critic that gave her restaurant a bad review. He encourages Julie to take risks with her food and stop playing it safe all of the time. There is good chemistry between the two, and it is a good love story.

Even though the story is short, it was still pretty good. The book held my interest and I was involved in the characters. I really enjoyed it. So if you're looking for a clean, fun, romance then this book is probably for you! ( )

Well, between 2 and 3 stars. Pro's and Con's.

Pro: did not read like a freebie except for a bit rushed in parts. Was free again today. I liked the main character and story was fine if a bit pat/sappy. A light, fun read. Not as derivative as I worried with blurb at Amazon comparing to Debbie Macomber and Nora Roberts (of the Bride Quartet with unfortunately similar idea of taking the chef, the florist, etc. from weddings and giving them their own book).

Cons: Definitely not the level of Debbie Macomber or Nora Roberts. Romance kinda shoehorned into the book in a way not quite flowing with story; smut level the fade to black sort. I'm not a fan of shorter works and did not notice when downloading that this was a novella or I might have liked it better. There are sequels and if you like and will be pursuing, check for the omnibus edition ([b:Four Weddings and a Fiasco Boxed Set|16091138|Four Weddings and a Fiasco Boxed Set|Lucy Kevin|http://www.goodreads.com/assets/nocover/60x80.png|21895779]). I enjoyed; but, not sure I will be pursuing series (actually the omnibus edition IMHO at 300 pages makes it a full-length novel rather than omnibus but still a bundled deal). ( )

I read this book in just a few hours. It was a short read, and for the length of it it was enjoyable, but I felt that there could have been so much more done to it. The romance itself was interesting, and Julie, the main character, had enough flaws to make following her story interesting, but I felt the story lacked a depth of character. It's a good short little romance, but I don't know if I'd read the others. ( )
