I wish the library had more of these shorts on audio download (or just more audio short stories in general). It was amazing to revisit the Alexie story for the nth time--he will never get old--and BD Wong delivers it in such a way that it transforms from a short story to a monologue (I never realized that story could hold any more emotion than it already does, but dang, man). I'm excited to continue reading Adichie and really jump in with Lahiri's work as well. The Hemon story wasn't as strong, but funny enough to make me laugh on the treadmill at the gym, so I wouldn't mind seeing how his other work fares. ( ) no reviews | add a review

New American Stories presents diverse stories of contemporary American life and dreams lost and found, by four of the best young, contemporary writers Jhumpa Lahiri, Sherman Alexie, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Aleksandar Hemon, as performed by terrific stage and screen actors. All four writers have a unique perspective on the American experience which is reflected in their work. Whether they are immigrants from another country, or in the case of Sherman Alexie, a Native American, they're all writing from a voice that comes from being an outsider. They also share a well-deserved, universal praise for their work. No library descriptions found. |
