This book challenges the reader to emulate Hudson Taylor's life without falling prey to worshiping the man himself. His problems, such as illness, the loss of a child and later his wife and newborn son to cholera, an injury that leaves him paralyzed for almost a year, all show sides of him, including his struggles with doubts and fears. However, Hudson Taylor pushes on in the Lord's strength and grace, serving God and making a difference on the mission field. Christian - 21/2 stars. He felt this book was more for an adult than a child. Julia-3 stars I really liked this book especially when we read Hudson Taylor's personal writings/letters throughout the book. His thoughts on paper are steeped in scripture and love for Christ. I also liked how this story was not just about Hudson Taylor but his godly wife. At times, the book was very detailed in describing things, but I didn't mind that. I loved this biography. The testimony of Hudson Taylor was influential in the lives of later missionaries like Amy Carmichael (1867–1951), Eric Liddell (1902–1945), and Jim Elliot (1927–1956). Elizabeth Elliot once said: "When I was a college student my father lent me the two-volume life of Hudson Taylor." [not this book] "Another college student, Jim Elliot, read it too and this was one of the great things he and I had in common—a huge hunger for that sort of godliness, for a true missionary heart."
