This book is about a young girl who wants to be a jingle dancer like the women in her family. She goes around to gather jingles to make a dress to perform at the next powwow. It is a great book representing the Native American culture. Jenna is looking for enough jingles to sew onto her dress to participate in the Jingle Dance, so she borrows one row of jingles from each of four female relatives. Some weird-seeming grammar ("Jenna bounce-stepped on family room carpet"), and in the first picture that shows Jenna in the Jingle Dance her facial expression looks kind of stoned. Other than those things, it was a cool book. Includes author's notes and a glossary. This book would be best for K-2. It is about an indigenous girl who wants to learn to jingle dance like her grandmother, who she watches in a video, but must find enough jingles first. It is set in present-day with a modern setting. I would use this book for representation for the Indigenous community and grandmother/daughter relationships. no reviews | add a review
