I messed up on the observation practice. Extra star rating is because of the heirloom being passed down the generations, and because adults with families are among the graduates (yay for life-long learning). ( ) Fifth-grade sleuths Cam Jansen and Eric Shelton attend Eric's father's college graduation in this thirty-first entry in David A. Adler's beginning chapter-book series devoted to their mystery-solving adventures. When Grandpa's Shelton's bag goes missing after the graduation ceremony, together with the gift he had intended to give Mr. Shelton, Cam and Eric kick into gear, helping to figure out what has happened... Unlike almost all of the prior Cam Jansen books, Cam Jansen and the Graduation Day Mystery does not involve theft, but rather, a mistake that must be set right. As Cam tells Eric, this is an unusual mystery, in that they already know what happened - this book is about a girl that helps her best friend's family find his dad's graduation gift. I think that the main message of this book is that it doesnt matter the actual gift but the love and thought behind it. I like this book for two reasons. the fist reason is the writing. It is perfect for new chapter book readers. its engaging, funny, and flows with such ease. The size of print is great for new chapter book readers. I also think that it really captivates the reader with its humor, "Diane said,"I don't have time for college. I don't even have time for third grade. After second grade I'm getting a job." I just thought that this quote was fa good example showing the humor and maybe even relatable to some readers. the second reason I enjoyed this book is the illustrations. Since this is more of a chapter book for transitioning readers I liked that it still incorporated illustrations. They depicted little snips and pieces of important moments that happened in the book. no reviews | add a review
