Sfuggita agli orrori della Germania nazista, nel 1940 la filosofa ebrea Hannah Arendt trova rifugio insieme al marito e alla madre negli Stati Uniti grazie all'aiuto del giornalista americano Varian Fry. Qui, dopo aver lavorato come assistente universitario ed essere divenuta attivista della comunità ebraica di New York, comincia a collaborare con alcune testate giornalistiche. Nel 1961 la filosofa e teorica politica ebraico-tedesca Hannah Arendt si reca a Gerusalemme per seguire, per conto del New Yorker, il processo al funzionario nazista Adolf Eichmann. Qui rimane sorpresa quando, pensando di trovare un mostro, vede solamente un uomo mediocre. La serie di articoli che scriverà le inimicheranno amici e lettori, ma saranno la forza della verità e il libero pensiero a spingerla avanti. ( )
