With the nostalgic feel, the wordless pictures, I can see this appealing to a large audience. Not a storytime book, but definitely a lap-sit for preschool and younger. ( ) Ok, now I get it. I read Flora and the Peacocks first, and wasn't at all charmed. This is somewhat more interesting to me. I still don't understand the point of the flaps, as opposed to another page, unless it's that the reader is supposed to flip back and forth more than once? Still a very simple tale, with art that appeals, I'm sure, more to dancers and artists than to me. But still, I have no desire to read more in the series. This one definitely gets some marks for innovation, but it's not ~that~ drastic from other lift-the-flap books. The artwork is very pretty (I'm a huge fan of all the pink) and I love the way Flora and the flamingo both move. It's a cute book, but it's not one that is going to stick in my mind in any way other that being "that flap flamingo book". I think it could have used a little more PiZzAzZ to really make it stand out. Younger kids will probably get a grin out of it! This book had a cute idea of using the flaps at the beginning but then I wasn't quite sure why they suddenly stopped for the other half of the book. The simplicity of the book is beautiful with just the two characters on each spread, a white background for most of the story. Of course this is one with no words, yet evokes a sense of fun and playfulness. Overall though, I wasn't too impressed with Flora and the Flamingo. While the simplicity of the artwork brings a nice aesthetic, I don't sense much of a story from the interaction of the two characters present. It was also very short, which is probably a factor of it not having much of a storyline. no reviews | add a review
