Gaul was divided into three parts. No, four parts - for one small village of indomitable Gauls still held out against the Roman invaders. the lions. To get into the Circus Maximus and rescue their bard, Asterix and Obelix have to become gladiators.

Oh no! The Romans have captured Cacofonix as a gift for Caesar-and the Emperor plans to throw him to the lions. There's only one way for Asterix and Obelix to rescue their bard: they have to become gladiators themselves.

When the Cacofonix the bard is taken to Rome as a present for Caesar, Asterix and Obelix set out to rescue him, sailing with a Phoenician merchant. But how do our Gaulish friends come to end up training as gladiators?

It is 50 B.C. and all of Gaul is occupied by the Romans, all but a small village of indomitable Gauls.

The Romans kidnap Magonaglix, the Gaulish village bard, and lock him away in the Circus Maximus where an audience with the lions awaits him. Saving Magonaglix from this terrible fate proves difficult for Asterix and Obelix - until they manage to find themselves work that will get them into the arena ... as gladiators!

Asterix and Obelix set out to rescue Cacofonix the bard who has been captured by Odius Asparagus as a present for Julius Caesar, and end up as gladiators because Caesar doesn't want the bard and throws him to the lions.

The Romans capture Cacofonix as a gift for Caesar who plans to throw him to the lions. To get into the Circus Maximus and rescue their bard, Asterix and Obelix have to become gladiators. 8 yrs+

Niki and his friend Nacho are two unemployed professionals who pass the day taking sun and "chuteando" stones in a peripheral suburb of Santiago. In this imposed leisure, Niki digresses on the sense of the existence and dreams about Manuela, who is his impossible love; Nacho, the more realistic, exploits himself in homosexual prostitution. With such marginal means, the friends journey between self-destruction and crime in order to survive in this vicious circle that cannot be broken.

Caligula Alavacomgetepus, the prefect of Gaul, captures Assurancetourix and sends him as a present to Caesar. Unimpressed by Assurancetourix, Caesar orders him to be thrown to the lions at the Circus Maximus. Aste?rix and Obe?lix hitchhike all the way to Rome where they must become gladiators to rescue him.

Alavacomgetepus, römischer Präfekt in Gallien, hat die originelle Idee, Cäsar einen dieser unbesiegbaren Gallier zum Geschenk zu machen. Den Römern gelingt es tatsächlich, Troubadix zu entführen. Allerdings treibt der Barde mit den bescheidenen Sangeskünsten selbst das römische Publikum im Zirkus in die Flucht. Rettung tut Not und Asterix und Obelix machen sich auf den Weg nach Rom.

Weitere 3 Bände (vgl.a. "Tour de France" und "Asterix und Maestria" in dieser Nr.) aus der "ultimativen" Asterix-Edition, die sich inhaltlich unverändert, doch in übergroßem Format, neu koloriert und gelettert und in gediegener Aufmachung präsentiert (zu den ersten 6 Ausgaben vgl. BA 8/07). Dazu gibt es in jedem Band einen Anhang mit bildlichem Hintergrundmaterial (Faksimiles, Skizzen etc.). Das vorliegende Abenteuer - hier Nr. 4, in der "normalen" Zählung Band 3 - erschien in Deutschland erstmals 1969 und wurde in BA 284, 371 und 3/91 besprochen. Nach wie vor gilt: Wenn Bibliotheken mit größerem Etat ihren Asterix-Lesern etwas Besonderes gönnen wollen, sind sie mit diesen neuen, allerdings nicht eben preiswerten Ausgaben gut bedient.. - Die gallischen Helden müssen in die Höhle des Löwen (also nach Rom) reisen, um den entführten Barden Troubadix zu befreien.
