I didn't think it would live up to the hype, I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, and I certainly didn't expect that ending. I have to give kudos to the author because the last fifty pages of the book absolutely made it for me and bumped this up to a five star rating. My only gripe is I STILL don't know how to pronounce 'Iseult'. If that's my only complaint, then crap, this book must be amazing. I would recommend this book (And I have!) 5 out of 5 stars. ( ) She wasn’t trapped inside her skin or her mistakes, and she didn’t need to change who she was. Everything she needed was inside of her: the tools from Mathew and Habim—even Uncle Eron—and the solid, unwavering love of her Threadsister. Safi could bend and shape the world. And it was time to do so. ***I'm writing this review after reading book s0.5 1,2,3*** To be honest I've seen The Witchlands series for quite some time now and I kept postponing adding them to my list because I thought they might not be up in my ally. BUT I was so so wrong! This series has become one of my favorites! I love the many characters and POVs, each chapter is a different POV and you even if you don't look you can tell who's POV it is because each character is unique with their own flaws and strengths. I like the steady "flow" of the worldbuilding, it's not rushed and not slow either. Storywise, it's action-packed, slow-paced (I mean this in a positive light) and fast-paced in some. One of the themes that I've notice with all books so far in the series is taking ownership of your own life, making your own decisions, mistakes and learning from them. So if you like "coming-of-age", stories that are action-packed and take the classic element like witches, making it something new and with well-written characters, this series is for you! This book was just so... blah, for a lack of a better word. I felt like this story just dragged on and there was no point to some scenes. The romance felt off to me, which is strange since I usually love romance subplots in most books. The one thing I did like about this book was the sisterly bond between Safi and Iseult. It was very warming and I believe this would've been enough to not include the romance. To be honest, I considered not finishing this book many times while reading it. Although I do want to continue on with this series, or at least try to read the next book. Truthwitch was closer to a 3 1/2 stars than just three. Truthwitch was fun to read with a good sense of humour and many likeable characters. The relationship between the two female leads was particularly enjoyable. The world they inhabit is complex with mythology, secondary concepts of racism, various cultures and a varied magic system. It was also a little predictable, unfortunately. Beyond that, the prose was mediocre and the events that actually took place in the story a little underwhelming for the most part. Some were quite good, though. no reviews | add a review

HTML:On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a "witchery," a magical skill that sets them apart from others. In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble—as two desperate young women know all too well. Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It's a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires. Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her—but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safi's hotheaded impulsiveness. Safi and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and ship's captain) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.
