The pacing was slow to reveal any sort of mystery and when things were revealed, I felt that either characters wildly overreacted or underreacted. That made me (rightfully) think that what really happened was something in between what we the readers are lead to believe happened. I read some spoilery reviews so I know the last twist, and yeah...I kinda figured that was where it was going, but I just didn't care enough to finish it.
But let’s see what she tries next time. This is only a debut. It packs a huge amount of promise, ingenuity and sleight-of-hand into a rookie effort. And it’s mostly gimmick-free. Until that finale, there’s not a cheap trick in sight. AwardsDistinctions
Finding a mysterious novel at her bedside plunges documentary filmmaker Catherine Ravenscroft into a living nightmare. Though ostensibly fiction, The Perfect Stranger recreates in vivid, unmistakable detail the terrible day she became hostage to a dark secret, a secret that only one other person knew--and that person is dead. Now that the past is catching up with her, Catherine's world is falling apart. Her only hope is to confront what really happened on that awful day ... even if the shocking truth might destroy her.
