The story line was good though. Had a good pace, the photos were as creepy as ever. The trio each had their bit of spotlight in the book, though this mainly focused on Dan and his journey to finding out who he is. This one wasn't as creepy as the earlier books in the series, but still very good. I would recommend it. 4 out of 5 stars. ( ) Catacomb is the third book in the Asylum series. It follows Dan a generally loner kid who occasionally sees things. Abby an artist, loyal friend, and Dan's love interest. Jordan, a math wizz, gay, who has no problem speaking his mind but is still loyal to both his friends in the end. This time Jordan is moving to New Orleans and Abby and Dan are coming along with for a fun, before college, road trip. But the Dan starts to receive warning texts from a dead friend. People are following him, and more and more information and leads are popping up about his birth parents who died in a car crash. Soon they find themselves in the middle of a mystery, and danger, once again. I don't know if its because its the third book and I'm getting into it more, or if its because its getting better, but I'm giving this book 4stars instead of 3. I found it more interesting and engaging then the first two. Also it was a bit spookier. The betrayals are starting to get predictable but still the mystery of the story I never saw coming. I still think there is something lacking in the dynamic of the trios friendship and the story left some unanswered questions for me. All in all it was a great story and book. I'd give the overall trilogy four stars. This book has been better than the previous ones. The story is more interesting, and we do get a bit of explanation of what's going on in the background, so it has that going for it. Unfortunately, the author still leaves too much unexplained. And the deus ex machina at the end was a turn off. Overall, read the book once, and skip it. That's what I did. no reviews | add a review

HTML: The heart-stopping third book in the New York Times bestselling Asylum series follows three teens as they take a senior year road trip to one of America's most haunted cities, uncovering dangerous secrets from their past along the way. With all the thrills, chills, and eerie found photographs that led Publishers Weekly to call Asylum "a strong YA debut," Catacomb is perfect for fans for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Sometimes the past is better off buried. Senior year is finally over. After all they've been through, Dan, Abby, and Jordan are excited to take one last road trip together, and they're just not going to think about what will happen when the summer ends. But on their way to visit Jordan's uncle in New Orleans, the three friends notice that they're being followed . . . and photographed. Then Dan starts receiving messages from someone he didn't expect to hear from again—someone who died last Halloween. When the trio arrives in New Orleans and the strange occurrences only escalate, Dan is forced to accept that everything that has happened to him in the past year may not be a coincidence, but fate—a fate that ties Dan to a group called the Bone Artists, who have a sinister fascination with notorious killers of the past. Now Dan's only hope is that he will make it out of his senior trip alive. Don't miss Madeleine Roux's all-new gothic horror novel, House of Furies. .No library descriptions found. |
