Lizzie loves school, and is dismayed when first grade ends, like kindergarten did, in June - not a full year at all. She leaves without saying goodbye to her teacher, but changes her mind and goes back - and finds her teacher sad, too. But they are both able to go to summer school, so it's a happy ending (continuation) for both. A sweet story for those school-loving kids. This was a reversal of the nervousness or sadness a child may experience returning to school after summer. Lizzie loves school and enjoys playing school when she is home. This book shows all of the fun activities Lizzie experiences in school until it is time for her last day of first grade. Lizzie is saddened by the beginning of summer while all of the other children are happy but she eventually finds a friend that feels the same way as she does. This book is about a girl named Lizzie who absolutely loves school, and everything about it. Lizzie loves school so much that she told her favorite teacher Miss G. that she wanted to attend summer school just so she could learn more. I could use this book at the beginning of the year to show kids how school is a very exciting time of their day. I could also use this book to discuss emotions and what emotions show up in this book. This book goes over the first day excitement of school, the school year, and how excited Lizzie is to be in school and how sad she is when she finds out school is over. Would be a cute book to read on the last day of school. In the end, Lizzie pairs up with her teacher, and her teachers asks her to do summer school with her so that it doesn't have to be their last day of school! Nothing amazing, but I surely did enjoy it. I recommend it to families who have a youngster who isn't sure about the idea of starting school, but who want to avoid the stereotypical books about anxiety calmed or challenges met. And I recommend it to anyone who wants to peek in the teachers' lounge and see them partying.... ( )
