My six- and three-year-olds were expecting something very different from this collection of inspirational sayings by Confucius, Plato, Einstein, etc. With Pete the Cat on the front looking out with his deadpan eyes, they were not wrong in expecting an adventure. Instead their eyes glazed over as I tried to explain what the sayings meant and who the people were who said them. Page 1: "To begin, begin." William Wordsworth. Um, okay. Even with Pete the Cat chiming in, "Life takes courage; be brave!" the kids were not engaged. That latter statement would be the great topic for a book: put in context and made into a story. Page after page of exhortations didn't work. I suspect that it appeals more to adults than kids. ( ) no reviews | add a review
