When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past who he thinks could be responsible--and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality. With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands, and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson (keywestnan)
keywestnan: The entire Jackson Brodie series by Kate Atkinson is excellent but this one, set during the Edinburgh Festival, may be my favorite. Like Galbraith/Rowling, Atkinson's Brodie series excels at making characters who are entertaining, fallible and fascinating.… (more)

A fat thriller, immediately engrossing, as you are reading the thoughts of the killer ...
Enjoyable read, a veritable page turner.
Warning, the language and scenes are quite gross in places.

I needed a dictionary a few times to keep up with the author's vocabulary.
I also increased my vocabulary with local lingo:
Fat Rascal= a cross between a bun and a scone
'eau de nil'= a pale greenish colour
'Whit a reedy'= bit embarrassed ( )

The characters are great and I really enjoy spending time with them. Enough so that I don't get too ticked off when Strike always solves the crime 2/3 of the way through but won't give me the clues to do it myself. ( )

This was so good. Such consistent quality and definition of characters. Robin is my savior from brainless sidekicks. I think this series might be about her, and Strike is the sidekick. SO HAPPEEEEEE ( )

Quotations
“A leg?" repeated Detective Inspector Eric Wardle on the end of the line. "A fucking leg?"
"And it's not even my size," said Strike, a joke he would not have made had Robin been present.
