Both of these books are recommended in all sorts of best-of and summer-reading lists, and both have their charms. Dialogue is smart, and the characters are fun and quirky - even if their lives don't seem to follow any sort of believable trajectory. I preferred the more straightforwardly-plotted Mislaid, but your mileage may vary. ( )
