I was worried that this would be "Superman: Unchained" all over again, with a Super-analog fighting our favorite Kryptonian over the thinnest of premises. Well, the catalyst for violence in this book does feel pretty rushed, but several panels of smaller, quieter moments won me over (Superman's happiness after reuniting Ulysses with his estranged parents, standing alone in the rain after a disagreement are two examples). Plus there are the why-people-love-Superman moments following Lots of stuff going on in this TPB. First there’s a new hero in town (and on the planet). Ulysses. His parents had sent him to Dimension Four to save his life as a baby, but he’s back, and he a Superman become buddies pretty fast. Of course, there’s lots of questions about Ulysses, and why he’s on Earth, and will he stay, and what’s going on exactly. And, of course because it’s a Superman comic and not a Ulysses comic, he doesn’t stay buddy buddy with Superman for too long. There were also some really interesting and mysterious villains in this TPB. Like someone called The Machinist, and another who I guess is only know as Mr. Oz, or Oz? But, my favorite part of the TPB was the part where Superman was almost human for a day. Not to mention, during that day I was stunned by a twist in the story as well. Yikes. Comics legend John Romita Jr. (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN) makes his DC Comics debut, teaming up with superstar writer Geoff Johns (JUSTICE LEAGUE) and inker Klaus Janson (BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS) in SUPERMAN: THE MEN OF TOMORROW! The powerful super-being Ulysses is the last son of a doomed planet. Our planet. Thinking Earth's destruction was at hand, his parents used experimental science to send their son to another dimension. Now he has returned, and Superman has finally found a peer. But will Ulysses become the hero and partner that Superman wants him to be? No library descriptions found. |
