Well, Caroline Mitchell did it again! After reading her first Jennifer Knight novel, Don't Turn Around, I couldn't resist reading her second book. But still, I was slightly worried that it wouldn't quite live up to the first one. And I am happy to report that I worried for nothing. Time to Die was just as good as the first one, if not even more!

I LOVED the way the mystery was spun. I seriously thought I had it all figured out... until I realised I hadn't. I really enjoyed being in the mind of killer and seeing things from his point of view, even though a few elements in this bit of the story left me slightly confused at times. But the pace was so quick, I found myself wanting to read more and more, turning the pages non-stop simply because I had to know what would happen!

In this book I also felt a much deeper connection with Jennifer, which was a bit lacking in the previous book. She is a deeply complex woman, still battling the demons of her past. She knows life can be tough and she's still learning how to let go and be happy. And I love her for it! She's smart, driven and seriously badass, but at the same time she's vulnerable and scared and working her way through it. And her and Will are SO GOOD together! I seriously ship these two so much, words can't express this.

The secondary characters were also pretty enjoyable, even though I found them to have slightly less space than in the previous book. In particular, I was sorry to see so little of Jennifer's nephew, since their bond was one of my favourite things about Don't Turn Around. But I hope this will be explored more in the next books, there was definitely a basis for it!

Overall, I really enjoyed Time to Die. I will definitely be looking out for the next book in this series, and I can't wait to see what next adventures will be in store for Jennifer Knight! ( )

I had hoped this book would be better than the first one, and in the beginning, it actually looked like it would with a tarot reading man called the Raven whose predictions about deaths seems to come true. But after a while, I just felt that the story started to drag.

The chapters shift between Jennifer Knight and Bert, the tarot man and it worked OK in the beginning but somewhere along the way I just got tired of the alternation. Could be because I found the story just dull and I wanted it to wrap up so that I could move on.

There is a side story with a sect that I found uninteresting, I just never saw the point of it. But I should have know that there would be some connections to the tarot murder case. I mean why else add a side story to a crime book without having something to do with the main case. But I guess the biggest problem I had with the story not that interesting to read about, and that I'm sick and tired of main characters being chosen by a killer as his nemesis or something. Sending letters with a raven feather in them to Jennifer just made me mentally sigh because I have read so many books lately with the main character being the _target of the killer they are chasing that it's lost its appeal.

Jennifer Knight also has some personal problem with her father returning to town and wants to have contact with Jennifer and her sister. But Jennifer just doesn't want to forgive him, and I can understand that. I just wish she could understand that her sister is a grown up woman with two kids and that she can't tell her what to do. And, perhaps she should tell her the truth about the fire on the boat. Secrets tend to come out sooner or later.

Anyway, I was a bit surprised towards the end when something was revealed about on of the characters in the book, I didn't expect that I must admit. I expected a must less surprising end, but it makes sense that there is something more to the tarot killings.

Would I continue with this series? No, I don't think so. I just can't seem to warm up to Jennifer Knight or the rest of characters and neither this book or the previous was really that interesting. At least the first book had a grand finale, this book lacked that and also lacked a really interesting story.

Update: I'm glad I read the next book in the series because unlike this one I quite liked that one!

This was fantastic - I absolutely raced through it and couldn't put it down. I hadn't read the first book in the series but, although it might have been beneficial to do so, it didn't diminish the effect of the story.

Jennifer is a great character as she has a gift herself; to be able to see inside the mind of another human being. I almost jumped out of my skin when she managed to get inside the mind of The Raven! What is even better, is that Jennifer is part of Operation Moonlight and we find that other police officers have psychic abilities too - it's like a British crime fighting X-Men or X-Files. Then we add the love interest to make the perfect story - Will, who is Jennifer's partner at work but there's so much chemistry between them that I found myself reading quicker to find out if they managed to get together or not.

The Raven was so creepy - he is definitely the character you love to hate. With his flaky itchy skin I was almost itchy myself and felt shivers going down my spine every time he offered to perform a tarot reading. The story of his past which appears in flashbacks was an amazing addition to the story and you get to understand more about the reason he is acting the way that he is. About half-way through I did start to think that he wasn't acting alone, but you'll just have to read for yourself to find out if I was right or wrong.

With characters so vivid they almost jump out of the pages - Caroline Mitchell has found out how to write in 3D! I will certainly be reading Detective Jennifer Knight book 2 Don't Turn Around at my very first opportunity. I also plan to read Caroline's book, Paranormal Intruder, about her own family's paranormal experience - to have experienced the paranormal and then to be able to write stories that must bring back memories of this terrible experience, makes Caroline one very special lady indeed.

This was such a spine-tingling book and I'm really look forward to reading more from Caroline Mitchell.

This was such a treat to read! I love the paranormal, mysteries, and crime novels but found it is very hard to find an author who blends all of that successfully in one novel. Caroline Mitchell has done that and more. I was drawn in from the beginning, and I like how the author fleshed out the main characters but still managed to leave more to be discovered. This is actually the second book in the series but it can be read as a stand-a-lone novel as well. I can honestly say that Caroline Mitchell has gained a fan. ( )
