Harris' books are always easy to read, but this title felt more like a bridge between books for character development than anything else. Definitely not the strongest of the series. ( ) This was much better than the last few in this series. The plot was believable and Roe's quest for answers was not the busybody kind that so many are nowadays. Roe's step brother and 3 friends disappear, a tragic accident happens, another boy is kidnapped and a young girl is bullied. Roe's is frantically looking for the kids as she is dealing with morning sickness and her disreputable father. All very logically handled though baffling. However, when we get to the conclusion there were a few holes in the explanations of reasons and events. Too bad, this was going so well. The main character, Aurora Teagarden, is a librarian in a little Georgia town, although she doesn’t spend much time in the library in this 9th installation of the Aurora Teagarden Mystery series. Soon after learning she is pregnant, the settling in of her recently arrived younger half-brother, who has run away from his dysfunctional home in California, is interrupted when he and a few of his peers go missing and one turns up dead. The dichotomy of character types is well portrayed and I remained engaged throughout the story. Dedication in this book: this book is for the people who asked me what Aurora was up to in the years since I wrote about her. I might have never attempted another book about my favorite librarian if it had not been for all of you. ^^^I was one of those, but deeply regret it now. Memories fade over the years but: Has Roe always been so awful?? She's pregnant, and her brother's missing. With all that's going on, she's annoyed that people aren't more excited about her pregnancy. When her friend needs support, she's like, what about me? And the mystery...meh. At least it was short. ** of *****, mostly because of nostalgia. I wanted Ms. Harris to revisit the Harper/Grave series but after this???? No, please don't. no reviews | add a review

HTML: #1 New York Times bestseller Charlaine Harris returns to her Aurora Teagarden mystery series with a fabulous new book featuring the small-town Southern librarian. Aurora Teagarden is basking in the news of her pregnancy when disaster strikes her small Georgia town: four kids vanish from the school soccer field in an afternoon. Aurora's 15-year-old brother Phillip is one of them. Also gone are two of his friends, and an 11-year-old girl who was just hoping to get a ride home from soccer practice. And then there's an even worse discovery-at the kids' last known destination, a dead body. While the local police and sheriff's department comb the county for the missing kids and interview everyone even remotely involved, Aurora and her new husband, true crime writer Robin Crusoe, begin their own investigation. Could the death and kidnappings have anything to do with a group of bullies at the middle school? Is Phillip's disappearance related to Aurora's father's gambling debts? Or is Phillip himself, new to town and an unknown quantity, responsible for taking the other children? But regardless of the reason, as the days go by, the most important questions remain. Are the kids still alive? Who could be concealing them? Where could they be? With Christmas approaching, Aurora is determined to find her brother.if he's still alive. .No library descriptions found. |
