I picked this out of the library's ebook lineup because it was set on a reservation and it sounded like the main characters were Native. Turns out that didn't really factor into the story much at all. And it wasn't really for me. I've never tried shifter romance before, but I found the premise interesting until it got to the erotica part and then I started laughing and just couldn't. I think I find all the "animal urges" stuff a bit too over the top, so this may be my first and last go for this genre. Chelsea is a trained agent is tired of Cullen keeping her in the office and plans to leave him, which triggers his recessed Primal Bengal. The Primal comes out gradually as Chelsea is endangered with her new covert job. I enjoyed the story. Chelsea has her own gifts that get stronger as they go through the mating dance. no reviews | add a review

HTML:When readers of dark romance and unbridled desire want to be satisfied, they turn to #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh and her “powerful and highly erotic” (Fresh Fiction) Breed novels. Now a Breed hides in the world of man—until a woman arouses the amused and wildly carnal animal within... Once, he was Judd—Bengal Breed and brother to the notorious fugitive Gideon. After Gideon disappeared, Judd was experimented on until his tortured body knew nothing but agony. Now he is Cullen Maverick, serving as the commander of the Navajo Covert Law Enforcement Agency in the small community of Window Rock, Arizona. Despite his genetics, Cullen is able to pass as human because his Bengal traits are recessed. He lacks the ability to smell the emotions, bonds and fears that other Breeds take for granted. And he remains tormented that he wasn’t able to mate the woman he loved—at the cost of her life. He’s no longer a Breed, merely a man. . . or so he thinks. But his tiger is about to be awakened by the one woman destined to be his—Chelsea Martinez. And their world will never be the same... No library descriptions found. |

A huge improvement over the last book, which was virtually unreadable. Leigh provides the necessary background information rather than expecting the reader to have read and/ or remembered the previous 3-4 installments. This is especially important given the numerous aliases used by various characters.
In addition, this book has an actual plot rather than a collection of mismatched scenes and barely coherent scenes. The mystery surrounding the attempts on Chelsea's life is compelling, and the resolution makes sense. That said, the transition between the initial events and the revelation of the culprits does not flow smoothly, i.e., a certain character's personality undergoes a complete 180 in order to introduce the villain and the motive.
The romance is also more appealing mainly due to the fact that Chelsea and Cullen's relationship is not only based on physical attraction (as in many of the previous books). Rather, there is also a strong emotional connection that serves as a foundation for their sexual interactions.
Overall, this is one of the better books in the series and it introduces some interesting new directions for further development. Cassie's book is next and I look forward to reading it.
